On Arizona
quote:

The Arizona Coyotes are going to explore what their other options are in the greater Phoenix area, and we’re going to monitor that closely,” Bettman said. “Our hope is that one of the options that are being explored and considered will come to fruition

On Salt Lake City expansion
quote:

There’s been reported interest from Salt Lake City in getting an NHL team, and Daly confirmed he spoke directly with Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith about that.

“We’ve certainly talked to Ryan Smith, and he has indicated he has an interest in bringing the NHL to Salt Lake City,” Daly said.

On Atlanta expansion
quote:

Quite frankly, look, when we first expanded there, it was 1972,” Daly said. “So the world has changed a lot since 1972. Some might argue that the second time we expanded there with the Thrashers, the building was not built in the best part of Atlanta in terms of facilitating support for hockey.

So are there better options going forward? We’ve been told there are. I think the game has changed. I think demographics of the various markets have changed over time. So the fact that they tried and failed twice wouldn’t necessarily preclude a third time

That is the most politically correct racist thing I have read in a while.

Move the Yotes to Houston today, expand to SLC and Quebec City, forget Atlanta exists and quit trying to make that work.

Give up on ATL. They don’t care about hockey.

Yeah this statement is complete and total bullshite.

Attendance was never the issue why Atlanta lost the Thrashers. It was ownership.

Be better.

Isn't Phillips Arena right down town? Location wasn't an issue, marketing was.

Do you not remember what that country made the Blue Jays do in 2020 and 2021? We need to get all pro sports teams out of Canada for the foreseeable future, not give them more.

Yeah that's not gonna happen.

Especially hockey.

Name them.

Quebec? Who else?

As we're seeing with the Winnipeg experiment, you have to have big-time corporate support to make a pro sports team work. The Canadian cities who can pull this off already have teams. And even a few who cannot.

Hamilton or Toronto 2 aren't going to happen because the Leafs won't let it.

I'll never buy the defense of "We can fill a CHL arena for a game of course we can do it with the NHL!" as a reason to expand back to Canada.

And it's likely that Salt Lake City is getting the Winter Olympics in the future. So there will be a brand new NHL arena ready for a team. Friedman said on his podcast Salt Lake City is getting a team one way or another.

Houston, SLC, and Atlanta are almost guaranteed to get the Yotes and two expansion teams.

That's assuming that AZ can't get their arena figured out. Bettman desperately wants that market to work. If AZ can get a long-term home, ATL gets left out in expansion.

Funny how Betteman is bound and determined to make Arizona work but bolted Atlanta like Bonnie and Clyde.

He's an idiot.

In Canada - Sakatchewan.

In the USA there is such an obvious area lacking a team.

Milwaukee!

While I have no problem with hockey in hot cities like Miami and Phoenix, it really REALLY fits in in places where the populations are third generation immigrants from Germany and Scandinavia and when you walk out of the Arena in the wintertime you better have a Parka on.

Milwaukee has NBA, NFL (Green Bay), MLB. It is a natural edition.

A similar case could be made for Indianapolis.
