If that is the case is Gardener trading price really too much? Gardner is elite and you can justify he will be better than any corner coming out and if the Colts are picking low the next two years it may be worth it.

Conversely the money and extensions may be crippling.

Two firsts is really only giving up one first.

You get an elite CB on a team that is in position to make a run now. Would they get that with their 2026 pick? Maybe, maybe not, but you only give up a 2027 first to ensure there is no risk on a championship caliber roster.

Including Adonai Mitchell makes this a fleece for the Jets

*ETA: that's sarcasm for those who didn't get it

I get the logic, but the lower salary on a rookie contract is a big boost

Good on Indy for going all in

Very true. But you have to wait over 2 years to find out if you land a rookie contract that plays Gardner's level.

I can see it both ways.

Jets: We want a 1st and 2nd rd pick for Sauce

Colts: What if we throw in AD Mitchell?

Jets: Make that two firsts

And he isn't on a cheap deal either. If the Colts win it all this year its worth it but does anyone think they actually will with Daniel Jones? I don't.

Sure but this is a team quarterbacked by Daniel Jones, not the dynasty Patriots or something. I think there is some risk that the 2027 pick could be a fairly high one.

Dude is 25, has a year left on his rookie contract and is a consensus top 3 corner. He’s absolutely worth 2 firsts and a special teams receiver.

Disagree.

You can pick a CB in the first two years in a row and your hope is maybe one of them is in the same realm as Sauce. The 26 pick is going to be a late round pick so you can almost already forget that one being a player of Sauce's caliber. He's 24 and a top 5 CB in the league. The Colts weakest spot was CB.

Damn. Colts must think they can contend for the Super Bowl this year if they’re giving up two 1st rounders.

Two firsts with the millions left on his deal isn't anything to sneeze at. Its a lot invested in a corner.

Around the league a lot of the better defenses do invest in the corner position, but they usually draft them and if they are good sometimes they end up paying them. They effectively paid him AND used two firsts.

He is a good player, but he has declined a bit in the past year or so and I don't think he has a Jalen Ramsey to the Rams type impact.

AD Mitchell still has loads of potential. He will be the 2nd best WR on that team by FAR. Will be good for Garrett Wilson to have another nfl caliber WR on the other side so they can’t quadruple team him anymore.

Sauce is fairly cheap through next season. His extension officially kicks in for the 2027 season.

Looking at his contract he is signed through 2030, but it looks like the Colts could get out of it as early as 2028 with a minimal dead money hit if something disastrous happens with him.

That’s also when his cap number spikes. They have him locked down for the foreseeable future, but they probably will have to rework his contract after the 2027 season.
