Should do a jump ball like in Aussie rules.

Why? Because of fantasy football?

It you’re gonna give the offense that big of a boost at least offset it with capping the spot fouls on PIs, especially the somewhat tricky tack ones.

If someone pulls someone down fine. But there is NOTHING worse that a 50 yard call because of some hand fighting late in a game that essentially hands the game to a team.

It makes no sense to treat a fumble differently at that spot on the field vs everywhere else on the field. They should bring it back to where the fumble occurred.

If you believe this then obviously you would support the same if it happens on the other end of the field? If the offense is backed up on their end of the field and and RB goes on a run around the corner has the ball punched out about the 2 yard line and the ball rolls into the endzone and out of the side or back of end zone I guess you are ok with giving the offense the ball back at the point of the fumble?

They just can’t leave the rules alone.

Does not need changing but if it was giving the ball at the 1 to recovering team I’d go for

Or make all fumbles out of bounds turnovers, that actually seems a lot more fun

You're talking about two different situations. One is a fumble forwards, your scenario above is a fumble backwards.

I think they need to change safety as well
Why should that team have to kickoff after

Every rule favors offense. Keep it. Makes things interesting.

Sure it does.

That's the scoring zone. It should carry extra weight.

I know it occurred today but how often does this even happen? 2x a season?

Maybe 2 or 3 times.

Usually when receivers or QB's get lazy w/ball security inside the 5 going in.

But the stupid spot of the foul rule on DPI gets to stay forever. Ticky tack contact with the receiver = 35 yard penalty ... punch a guy in the face = 15-yard penalty.

We're talking about fumbling through the endzone and out of bounds. There is no recovering team.

The field of play is the offense's field. The only part of the field that belongs to the defense is the end zone they are defending. So if you lose the ball there, in the defense's part of the field, it is their ball.

The goal is to get the ball into the defense's area (the end zone).

It's not that complicated.

No I am not. Isn’t a fumble backwards in the field of play treated the same?

I say lose a down and give it to them at the 20.

That makes no sense.

That's not technically true. There are no offensive and defensive parts of the field that "belong" to those groups. There's the field.

So if you lose the ball there, in the defense's part of the field, it is their ball.

They didn't lose the ball there, they lost the ball through there.
