So now it’s a definite. The NFC East winner will have a losing record.
Should the NFL have a rule, that states if a division winner can’t finish at least 8-8, that another winning record conference team should go to the playoffs in their spot?
This isn’t college football where you win 6 games and you are bowl eligible. This is the highest level of football. A losing record should not be rewarded with a trip to the playoffs.

Has any team with a worse record than the 7-9 Seahawks been to the playoffs before?

Like the 7-8-1Panthers?
The 4-5 Browns and 4-5 Lions?

As a Saints fan I can see how running into a 7-9 team in the playoffs might concern you.

The 6-10 Giants will be a tough out at home on Wild Card weekend.

It won't matter. None of those teams are getting past their first opponent which will prob be TB so the Saints will never see the NFC East Champion in the playoffs.

I think you should get in for winning a division. Sometimes they're bad. That just happens. But if you're below .500, I do not think you should be rewarded with a home playoff game. I think they should amend it where if you're below .500, you're ineligible to host.

According to Field Yates, there is a scenario where the Giants end up with the 3rd pick in next year’s draft (they lose and multiple other teams win).

They could also win the NFC East if they win and Washington loses.

shite happens. You don’t alter rules because of statistical outliers.

At one point this year there was a scenario where the winner of a week 17 NFC game would get a home playoff game and the loser of that game would get the #1 pick in the draft - which would have made for an interesting "game".

That scenario would have relied on the Jets and the Jags pulling off some upsets though.

Should CFB have a rule that you win your Conference let alone your division to play for the Championship? Apparently not.

You're arguing eye-test for the NFL.
