Sam made back to back at larges with David Pierce before Deggs arrived. Missing back to back regionals is definitely regressing.

On the surface maybe. But with the RPI system having major impacts on that, the scheduling is usually done years in advance with no real guarantee that the teams on your schedule will deliver high enough RPI ratings to get you where you need to be. The main point being, he still produced 39 wins and 35 wins in the last two years respectively. They were on the bubble. He can recruit better talent at UL and has more resources to work with at UL. While their fans think they regressed, I think it's more circumstantial. He's a great coach and would be a great hire.

Gonna take a wild guess that this is coming from either Casbon or Buddy Glass

Foote all but said that Deggs will be the new coach in an article he just posted.

Everyone on board with Deggs? Any other serious candidates? For those that know, can you give some cliffs on his coaching background and why he was the first choice?

Sports Talk radio in Shreveport said it is Deggs. Seemed certain, based on unidentified source. They don't usually rumormonger on something.

He was a rising star at Arkansas and Texas A&M before alcoholism took him off the rails. He coached under Robe for two years, the last of which we went 58-10. He won the Southland 3 out of 5 years at Sam Houston State

I heard from a source at Sam Houston State. Deggs is headed to Louisiana-Lafayette.

Spent three seasons as our hitting coach and had our 2014 squad mashing. I think we had 10 hitters hitting over .300. Think he was a rising star prior to coaching in Lafayette for Texas A&M, but ran into some alcohol issues.
Coach Robe gave him a second chance; Deggs took the opportunity and ran with it. Like Robe, he is very outspoken about his faith and his job being to help develop ball players into men first, baseball players second. After leaving to take over the head coaching job at SHSU, he led them to: three conference regular season championships, two regionals, and one super.
I think Deggs was always the favorite because he seemed like a natural successor to Robe as a cultural fit. Doesn't hurt that he's also a hell of a hitting coach.
ETA: Hendo beat me to it.
