I don’t hate it. ESPN’s graphics are also so fricking bold. A little understatement is nice.

I still remember the days when there wasn't a scoreboard widget on the screen the whole game...dark times indeed
but it did allow my dad plenty of time to say to my mom "I just want to check the score" so that we could watch a few minutes of some game we really didn't care about

Funny how life works. I can’t tell you what it’s looked like the past 15 or so years…but I know damn well what Fox NFL looked like circa 1994-98.

You’d think in the era of smartphones we wouldn’t need the score bug anymore. It turns people off of a one sided game

The other thing I can’t stand about ESPN’s graphic in football is that they use yellow in the bottom right corner to highlight games coming up airing on other channels.
It always makes me think there’s a flat on the field. Can they not use any other color?

that line of thinking is what kept CBS, NBC, ABC, & ESPN from creating 1 when they could've in the 90's
until Fox came along with their new scorebug and showed that it didn't matter
ETA: not the smartphone part... obviously
