He’s metaphorically true...
Problem is that it is the CCP’s handpicked local HK government which is giving into the CCP’s whims that they no longer follow the agreed upon legal framework from the British handover saying that HK citizens only be handled by the HK legal system.
In other words, this is something the UK and China agreed upon for the handover 20 years ago and now China is going “Not so fast my friend!” because of one case where an HK citizen was accused of killing his girlfriend.
Given the shite made up out of whole cloth over there, would you believe the official story about this guy just because the CCP said it? It reads more like a convenient causus belli to take more control over an area which isn’t as locked down as the mainland.

I thought it was more than accused as in he confessed to it.

That I am unsure of. But fricking millions of people over to get one guy, breaking a treaty in the process, is messed up.
Posted on 10/16/19 at 6:33 am to teke184
Oh I agree. Which is why we all know it’s not about one guy, but in fact, about breaking the treaty and absorbing HK into the CCP. China needs their economy and their money.
Subjugating their people is just a cherry on top

He is nothing but a CCP shill who lives in America because he doesn’t want to live there.
Just like a true communist.

People are protesting HK local gov.
The fact that you think they are merely protesting local government shows just how desperately incorrect you are on this matter and confirms that you are doing nothing, NOTHING, more than towing the CC party line as usual.
The fact that you made a post about the people of China loving the CCP is fricking golden. Yeah, they love it because THEY DON'T HAVE A frickING CHOICE. Step out of line? Prison camp for you! We're talking about a fricking dictator who banned Winnie the Pooh because he's assmad about some memes.
We're talking about a government that STILL CENSORS the Tiananmen Square massacre of 1989. It has been 30 fricking years, and they still fricking censor it man.
Nothing I say to you in any argument on this will go through because you will just tow the party line of one of the most oppressive governments in human history, and it will just boil down to propaganda.
Tl;dr get your head out of your arse and think for yourself.

How pathetic is someone who comes over having nothing, lives the American Dream, yet still shills a murderous dictatorship’s party line?
Only reasonable excuse I can think of would be if relatives back home would get punished if he came out against the regime, a la Kanter and his family.

Taking neither side =/= supporting a side.
LeBron still loses a ton of credibility - whatever he had - but he hadn't supported China or HK in this ordeal.

Attacking Morey makes it particularly easy to see the thought process behind him siding with China.
ETA: or at least not entirely neutral anyway.

This is one of those type of statements where you think you’re saying something that makes you seem humble or caring...but just another example of what an egoistical jack arse he is
quote:
"It's always a responsibility with me as far as players, a protection for the players," James said on Monday. "That's always [on my mind]. I never speak for just me, things that just benefit me. I try to be educated as much as I can and speak from a pure heart of how can I protect not only me, but protect the players as well in that situation."

It just baffles me that LeBron basically said "Morey didn't consider the financial impact on me, a (near) billionaire, and all of my co-workers who have minimum 7 figures of guaranteed income this year."
that's the whole situation in a nutshell and it's hilarious
Lebron trying to make the "we'd be punished if we hurt the NBA" argument is destroyed by their SJW/wokeness they've been pushing, and Silver pointed it out clearly. so any NBA player who criticized the NFL, who took moves to protect its bottom line, should be punished now? Just criticized? who knows.

He's said a few times he had a problem with the timing of the tweet, not the content. That may not sit well with us in the states, but it's also going to be upsetting to China.
ETA - in other words, I doubt China thinks LeBron has sided with them.

you can squeeze hypocritical in there, too
it's really easy to take a big stance when it costs you nothing

As I have explained on countless occasions including in my forthcoming book, there is a world of difference between vacuous virtue signalling and costly signalling (in the evolutionary sense of the term). Cowardly @KingJames should read my book. @NBA ?

quote:This wont change anything for Lebron
LeBron makes his money by being the highest profile player in the world and being very popular.
An image built over the course of a 15+ year career can get flushed down the toilet in no time if handled badly
Edit - for a decent comparison, use Tiger. After his marriage broke up due to a string of affairs, he lost a ton of endorsements and ended up being on the outs for several years.
He is now back and still an all time great but his image took a major hit from that and it affected his money as a result.
There are 4 camps:
1. People so loyal and dumb they actually think Lebron is smart and right. Those people remain unchanged
2. People that think LeBron is dumb as a box of rocks but just like to watch great basketball. Those people remain unchanged
3. People that think LeBron is dumb as a box of rocks and hate everything he touches and will root against him vehemently. Those people remain unchanged
4. People that never watched basketball before or cared at all. Those people remain unchanged
Each camp will just dig in farther, but I just dont see a big moment here for Lebron. He just reinforced everything we already knew about him

Disagree. There is absolutely zero middle ground in this case. You either support HK or you support China.
