You can't compare eras in football, but you can put the eras in context.
The context behind the 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs defenses is they were the last great defenses in our current era of physical freaks that still played without the overly friendly rules to the offense. This was a few years before WRs were getting knocked out on a weekly basis. That context just makes the 2000 Ravens defense even fiercer.
And between those two defenses of the time, even Warren Sapp said the Ravens were better without hesitation.
You can't compare teams between eras, it's an enormous waste of time. You can pick out certain players and admit they'd be superstars in any era (e.g. Walter Payton, Dan Marino, etc.). But that's about it.
Sidenote - Goose ran a bar in Annapolis (still there) for years and would love to come in and talk with everyone about those teams. He was the man.

and the '85 Bears gave up a zillion points to Marino.
Marino was ahead of his time in ‘84-‘85 and was a small glimpse of what a modern passing game would do to that defense.

I wish black lives mattered to Ray Lewis and friends.

Back when society didn't have short attention spans and could tolerate a 10-6 or 9-3 game. Had Hakim held on to the ball, I think STL would've gone to Tampa and given Baltimore a game.

My Jags somehow scored 36 on them despite going 7-9.

And two years later they add maybe the best safety of all time to their defense through the draft.

The Ravens strength of schedule has been ranked 3rd out of 31 in 2000.
Name me on one hand teams that finished the year outside the Top 10 in scoring offense and won the Super Bowl?
I think 2007 Giants were at #14 while the Ravens were at #14.
'85 Bears finished #2 in scoring offense.
Usually teams that win the Super Bowl are Top 5 in scoring offense.
Tangent: The 2007 Giants are the craziest outliers. They were #17 in scoring defense and held the 2007 super Pats with Moss to 14 points. The highest scoring team ever on average. The Pats scored less than 30 only twice all year and never scored less than 20. Never.
Until the SB.
Its conceivable how the 2000 Ravens pulled it off with that defense.
What the 2007 Giants did is:

What’s crazy is that defense was before they got Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs.
Those Ravens-Steelers games from the mid to late 2000’s were just awesome.

2015 Broncos are right up there. Peyton was worse than Trent Dilfer that season, the defense was an all timer

In that game Marino was 14-27 with 245 passing yards, 3 sacks and two turnovers. Pretty pedestrian for prime Marino and hardly an indictment of what that Bears defense would do against modern offenses. The Bears game down in Miami was one of those games where one side has all the mojo and whatever can go wrong for the other side does. It happens.

Watching this right now. Shannon Sharpe is by far my least favorite Raven on this show.

I'm glad it was filmed before Siragusa died.

People forget how great that Denver defsnese was. Demarcus Ware and Vonn Miller on the same D Line was a cheat code.
It's also pretty amazing watching all the clips of pundits picking the Giants in the SB.
I alway thought it was foregone conclusion that by everyone that Baltimore would win.
