My take? It's because football is increasingly being coached, played, managed, funded, and followed by people who think computer games faithfully reflect the ethos of the game. Madden Football never made anyone exit a "nutcracker drill" fighting back tears.

He absolutely sucked at Florida…I laughed out loud when the Dolts drafted him in the first round…he has no future.
NFL used to discriminate against black QB’s…now they draft glorified RB’s in the first round because they can run but not throw. How embarrassing

I can’t remember a more obvious bust. It was blatantly obvious to anyone with any football sense he was not an NFL QB. But the dumb shite “scouts” saw his 40 time then saw him throw a bomb to a wide receiver with no defenders and thought he was a first round pick.

NFL scouts have gotten absolutely horrific at evaluating QBs

Granted it was a late 7th, but Bill Belichick drafted a qb who hadn’t started a game since MIDDLE SCHOOL.

What’s even crazier is that guy actually ended up having a decent career and made probowl lol

I'm convinced there are many college QBs out there who lack athleticism but can process the game and have that "it" factor but never get a shot because of the "measurable". The Brock Purdy types. There are Brock Purdy's in the NCAA every year who could become decent NFL QBs.

Shout out to coach O because without him a guy that might be end up with multiple nfl MVPs might be slinging financial products and home/auto insurance in some mid size city right now.

He wasn’t athletic enough to beat out any of the guys OSU had and other teams looking at him projected him as a depth guy as a RS junior.

If anything it's the exact opposite of this. Richardson, analytically, is one of the worst quarterbacks of all time.

They drafted him high because other big and fast guys (Josh Allen) turned out to be better than their numbers indicated in college.

They thought he could be the next Josh Allen

Josh Allen is going to keep getting GMs fired because teams are chasing the next one.

Same with Mahomes. Zach Wilson was supposed to be the “next Mahomes”

Zach Wilson looked really good his last year in college but had a line that kept pressure off him every game except Coastal Carolina so it wasn't possible to see how he handled real pressure just going off that year.

Plus he had a good receiving group so tape of that season looked fantastic.

He probably had the worst college career of any 1st round QB draftee ever.

To me you are born with this. I guess it is something you can develop somewhat… I don’t know

The guy played one real season of college ball, and was basically a sophomore when he declared for the draft. It may be a maturity thing, and he would have helped his NFL career by spending at least one more season as a starter in the SEC.

I would knee-jerkingly say he got some bad advice by leaving college as early and raw as he did, but the kid was shooting up the draft boards where he was guaranteed to make a HUGE amount of money. I can see why he made that decision rather than risk injury or a big setback season.

That said, I hope he's at least listening to someone smart who has his best interest and future in mind when it comes to finances. He may not be long in the NFL if he doesn't develop, but the guy should have an excellent financial footing even if he's out of the league in just 3-4 years, if he's smart or is getting good, honest help.

So why is he one now?

I think it’s two reasons.
1) More people are being driven by RAS and analytics than ten years ago.
2) IMO, there is less practice time and football technique/IQ/understanding is being watered down. This leads to the game being more backyard and talent being more important than in decades prior. More NFL teams have gone to the RPO model and college teams with transfers and less development have just gone to “make a play”.

He’s terrible. One of the worst passing QB the NFL has ever seen.

And seemingly everyone on Earth besides a few NFL front offices saw this was the case coming out of college.

Just insane he was picked so high.

I never understood why they thought a guy that wasn’t good in college was going to suddenly be good in the pros.

Not that it makes the decision any better, but you could say this about Josh Allen coming out as well, which is the dragon they are chasing.

And most people on earth are bad QB evaluators, NFL front offices included.

Point in case
