Need more proof that the transfer portal and NIL are out of control?

An Ohio State tight end has already put out word that he will enter the transfer portal and it’s been less than an hour since the Cotton Bowl ended. Sure, he probably already had this decision made, but less than an hour after your team got knocked out the playoff you’re letting this news out? That’s wild.

Well the college football portal opens on Jan 2nd and closes on the 16th. And that's the only time for it.

These College Pros care less about winning than the real pros because keeping your livelihood in the NFL is a lot more difficult than the gigantic OPEN for business sign across the CFB landscape.
CFB needs some serious restrictions and collective bargaining and fans need to stop crying over losses when their "team" is just full of mercenaries whose only attraction to your School is $$$$.

The portal opens in 24 hours (11pm CST Jan 1). When do you want him to announce?
What’s crazy is the GA Ole Miss game will end at, or about, that time. Theoretically you could have people in the portal and announcing their new school before they have left the locker room.

I think schools and GM’s have to face reality here. College football is a short term market with no guarantees a guy you sign today will be here the next year. I think these schools thought that by paying these guys large sums of cash they’d be buying loyalty and roster stability for the long term and they’ve gotten the exact opposite. I think you’ll start seeing a growing trend of schools no longer willing to pay these guys current rates because market value ultimately hinges on availability. If there are no guarantees you’ll be here next year then I’m not going to pay you as if you were.
