re: NBA ratings continue to struggle. How can the league fix this?

I've said it before and i'll say it again.
there is no jeopardy in the NBA regular season. nothing really at stake and thus no real compelling reason to watch players half azz it.
how to fix it?
probably very controversial, but i say do away with the playoffs and make the regular season its replacement. the teams with the best regular season in the west and east meet in the finals.
now you have jeopardy and players wont be sitting out as much

Shaq is correct. My disinterest is mostly the lack of offense. Iso ball and 50 three pointers every game is just not fun to watch. I watch the Pelicans and that's it. I used to watch basketball nightly when I was a teenager through college.

We need more focus on shite players who are only in the league because of who their fathers are. We also need the NBA’s media partners to spend more hours and hours of coverage on this bullshite
Outside of the first week of the season, you've really heard nothing about Bronny.

For me, it’s what Shaq says. Variety is the spice of life, and the NBA has lost it.

Scarcity creates more interest. The biggest reason why the NFL is king is because there is only 1 game per week, for 18 weeks, over the course of ~4 months. The NBA plays many more games over the course of the better part of 7 months. THEN they have a playoffs that last two damn months! Playoffs that over half the league makes. That means people, and even players, have very little interest in the October, Nov, and even December games. It's often not until mid-January before you start seeing real consistent interest.

82 games are simply overkill

The NBA needs more star power like Zion Williams on billboards, advertisements, commercials, and guest appearances on Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego.

You have way too many games and/or way too many playoff spots when many of your star players are cool with taking multiple games off / stretching injury recovery times for more games than necessary. I would reduce the number of regular season games by at least 15 games.
Players are lazy and have realized they can get paid whether they play or not. This has turned people off especially those who spend their hard earned money to attend games and the teams best player is taking time off for rest. Go listen to Barkley and Shaq they explain this perfectly.
A large portion of NBA players are lazy and only care about a paycheck.

NBA should reformat and go to ELAM endings. Would be radical as frick for American sports and would garner huge interest.
ETA: and the season should start in December/January. Drop the October-November games.

It's unwatchable except for a very few games during the season.
The refs step in to help make games closer. It's all a show and its all in the hands of officials.

Contrary to what people have thought for years, good defensive teams are fun to watch. The defensive rule changes we have seen in the last 25 years spurred offensive production sure, but it’s essentially made the game a shooting competition.
Position-less basketball is kinda boring after the novelty wears off.
-Bring back hand checks and get rid of zone defense. You can cry player safety all you want but I’d bet my house injuries are more numerous and more severe these days vs 1995-2005 for example. I’d imagine practice rules have something to do with that as well.
Defense spurs real battles and naturally creates the storylines we all want.

5 days ago Brian Windhorst was making the media arounds about Broony playing only G League home games. You know they will pull this shite out for Christmas

No one wants to watch dudes that show up to the arena in women's clothes throw up 3s all game

Most sane people cannot support the woke spectacle of sports any longer.....too many other things they can be doing. This election further emphasized that.
It will never be the same!

My 2 cents is 3pt shooting and time management.

How much of the ratings dip is driven by the move to streaming?
Posted on 11/19/24 at 3:38 pm to RLDSC FAN
Maybe society is evolving to not care as much about some overgrown multimillionaire spoiled brats trying to throw a ball into a hoop?

I've said it on here before, but ultimately, it's 3 pointers. Analytics-wise, focusing on 3's is just smart basketball. You will score more points when you're scoring 40% from 3, then you would scoring 50% from 2.
That being said, it makes for a less entertaining product from a fan's point of view. A fun aspect of basketball previously was watching each time and how they all had their own style. They all played vastly different offense. Now, for the most part it's all the same. Throw up a bunch of 3's, unless you have a guy cutting to the whole for a layup/dunk.
It's good for winning basketball games, but terrible for winning over fans.
I don't know the solution.

Off the wall ideas for fun
Move basket a foot higher
Can only take a 3 attempt every other possession
Make a 4 point line further out
Bring back hand checking
Stop catering to players like LBJ (last year Lakers avg more FTs per game than anyone is history)
Move FT line back a foot
Get real refs not current ones who have known biases.
Put a cap on 3 attempts per game
Only one player on court can shoot 3’s, designated before games. If the bench 3 shooter is on court with primary 3 shooter, the primary is only one who can shoot any (they have a special signifier on uniform)
Time limit on reviews
Get some hot cheerleaders
Reduce timeouts
Reduce amount of timeouts can use in last 2 minutes to 2 total
All ideas are for fun and not intended to trigger anyone
