He gets to the line almost 9 times a game so he's more than just a jump shooter. 4.5 and 4 is also pretty solid from a 2.

An underrated aspect of the Derozan deal is the synergy Toronto keeps by retaining him. Part of why GS is so good on defense -- their units have tons of game experience together and know each other's rotations extremely well. I think Toronto is doing a good job of doing the same thing with their core and they should be able build upon last year with a healthy Carroll. I have a lot of faith in Masai Ujuri.

Whiteside has more wisdom than I gave him credit for. He'll be the best version of himself in Miami.

Much like Derozan, not a fan of that deal. Whiteside is wayyyyy overrated IMO.

Been down that path before man, some people really freak out if you don't think Whiteside is the best defensive big in the league. Pre-Bosh dropping out of the lineup they were better defense with Whiteside off the floor, but stats tho.

2. Now how about every time he got wildly out of position to chase a block on a player already taking a low % contested shot and then gave his many an easy rebound/putback...that doesn't show up in a boxscore, so we don't realize it.
For most of the season, the Heat's defensive was worse with him on the court, they did finish slightly better. The Heat rebound better when he's off the court.
He's forever out of position, something not easily seen, certainly not in a boxscore.

And his metrics still ultimately check out as someone who gives you quality defense. He's top 10 in DBPM, top 5 in defensive win shares, 3rd in DRB%, and 1st in block%. Yes he has some flaws, mainly defending the P&R, but I think his overall value, especially on defense, is high
