Much like Derozan, not a fan of that deal. Whiteside is wayyyyy overrated IMO.
As a talent, he's rare. There aren't enough 7' big men with his type of athleticism to go around. I don't have a problem with the deal.
You just hope he stays motivated but no one can predict the future.

That's an excellent signing for them. They need shooters.

He has the 2nd highest PER of any post player over the last two seasons.

He was MUCH better in the 2nd half of the season.
I'm honestly way more worried about his drive after finally getting paid than anything else

quote:Because literally none of those things factor in being out of position and your guy getting a rebound put back, screwing up a P&R. That's all well and great, it does nothing to show his faults.
And his metrics still ultimately check out as someone who gives you quality defense. He's top 10 in DBPM, top 5 in defensive win shares, 3rd in DRB%, and 1st in block%
quote:He's a good defensive player, yes. He's just way overrated as a defender. He's not THAT good. He's the poster boy for stats don't tell the whole story.
Yes he has some flaws, mainly defending the P&R, but I think his overall value, especially on defense, is high

No one is denying the stats man. That was like the entire point of the discussion.

What I'm saying is that although he may be a little overrated defensively, he's overall very much worth his new contract. If he keeps up that production that is.

What wer Miamis per 100 defense stats with him on and off the floor? Genuinely curious

I think it ended up pretty neutral. With healthy Bosh they were better with Whiteside off the floor, with no Bosh they were better with Whiteside on.

Team's block % goes up by .1% when he's in the game. And I was off in a post above, the team's rebounding % does suffer when he's out, but not by as much as you'd think.

He's a plus in every advanced stat except slightly negative in steal percentage and drtg

Free agent Chandler Parsons is nearing agreement on a four-year, $94M max deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources tell @TheVertical.
Not sure why he would choose Memphis over Portland.
