In a vacuum, I agree with you. But the 76ers are like 40 million from the cap floor, they're going to spend this offseason. A Barnes max contract isn't crippling to their roster and is much more appealing than some other potential options.

They need to stop wasting time with pie in the sky Durant. This is the retarded stuff they've done the past few offseasons and while they're waiting on the megastars, the realistic, obtainable free agents have already signed elsewhere.
If I'm Mitch Kupchak, I would be at Hassan Whiteside's doorstep at 12:01 am Friday.

You would think after LaMarcus embarrassed them last year (rightfully so), they would learn their lesson, but nope

Exactly. You have to have a solid base of talent to attract the superstars. Whiteside makes sense because LA has a gaping hole at the 5, he can be "The Guy" at least next year and he's only 26 so he can grow with the Lakers' young core. Go after Whiteside and spend some more money on some pieces to fill out the roster and make the situation look much better this time next year.
Lure LA's golden son Westbrook back home next offseason and then the Lakers would have something cooking imo.

As a fellow Lakers fan, who would you prefer?

Someone who is less focused on Hollywood for starters.

As a Celtics fan I hope the Lakers give Hassan $150mm

Pretty much all the Miami fans I have respect for have made some pretty compelling cases for why Whiteside is not anywhere close to being worth what will command.
I think at times Spoelstra doesnt utilize players properly so that is certainly a possibility but IDK, I guess if you are the Lakers I would prefer Whiteside over Barnes.

quote:why? he checks two major boxes for us. he gives us someone who can protect the rim at an elite level, and gives us a great PNR man for d'angelo. we are going to offer him the max and we should. dude gets so much random hate all because he has shite for brains at times and it makes people blind to the fact that hes a really good player and would be a great addition for the lakers

Yeah, I agree. I don't love Whiteside just because I don't know what he'll turn into when he gets paid. But even a Hollywood Whiteside will be a valuable cog if Ingram pans out and they nail the next big free agent signing. He's a scarce enough asset that you have to get him if you have a need and a shot to get him.

A perception around him in the past was that he was too loyal to some of the vet players, and not give younger players more playing time when they deserved it.

Did he go to the Larry Brown School of Coaching?

Marc Stein ?@ESPNSteinLine Story online soon with @Chris_Broussard: ESPN sources say Dwight Howard has set up free-agent meetings after July 1 with Atlanta and Boston.

Howard to ATL is a nice a story...but where does he even make sense anymore?
Chicago?
Chicago?

Is Boston seriously interested in signing Howard? His age doesn't align with where they are in development, not to mention he's a damn head case.

He fits perfect with that group and he isn't a head case. Don't believe everything you read on the message boards.
