Kuzma + Ingram + 2 first round picks lol

Pop will accept that.

Eta: not even enough salary there.

Lakers have to use Deng and probably need a 3rd team to take Deng off their hands.

I feel like people keep underestimating the Lakers interest in getting this done. They cant bring kawhi in if they get lebron and pg and the pitch to lebron will undoubtedly focus on having Kawhi and pg. I think the Lakers can overpay here and make the spurs say no

And I’m pretty sure this is the Spurs strategy and it’s a good one.

the spurs are the difference. i never in my life thought we would ever see this come from the spurs. a young, top 5 player in the league about to enter his prime is out right saying he wants to leave tens of millions of dollars on the table to leave over a fight stemming from a disagreement in the severity of an injury

throwing soup at a coach is weird, but JR smith is a weird fricker and i can see him doing something just totally bizarre like that. i can see teams fighting with one another in a tunnel/locker room and im surprised we havent seen more of that over the years.

i never thought id see something like this from the spurs

the lakers dont need to match salaries because they would be under the cap in this trade. assuming this trade happens before the signing of lebron or george. they could make that trade, renounce randle, and find a way to free up 12 million dollars or something like that

but dealing deng with a third team would obviously be much easier and is something that will most likely go down in the event of this happening

ok

what do you expect them to say right now? that the meeting sucked? no one is going to know how this went until something concrete happens. the language coming from woj makes this sound like this is a completely broken relationship that wont be fixed over night. they could have had a productive meeting, which once again we have no idea if thats actually the case, and still have a long way to go to mend the fences.

Yikes. Kawhi wouldn’t even sit down with Popovich without uncle Dennis around

He didn't have to say it went well. He's the same person who initially reported Kawhi wanted to be traded, so it's not like he's trying to whitewash the situation.

And just because his uncle was there doesn't mean it wasn't good either. You never know what happens in a face to face.

he was probably told by someone in the spurs organization it went well. of course they would think that

thats the point. i dont think anyone knows how it actually went outside of kawhi and pop and kawhis uncle. we wont truly know how it went until something actually happens. like a trade or an extension signing

could definitely see Pop taking a lesser deal from the Clippers just to avoid giving Kawhi what he wants.

Yeah this my fear. It would have to take Magic giving Pop/Buford an amazing deal that cannot be passed up. Meaning a combo of Ingram, Kuz, and Randle

Lakers would love to somehow package Randle in the deal.

Randle, Ball, 1st rounder this year, and 1st rounder in 2020 might get Pop to say yes. I still think Pop is going to ask for Kuzma as well which will lead the Lakers to include Deng in there somewhere.

If the Spurs are getting Randle they're going to have to overpay him to get him to agree to stay off the market. He's not going to be a great asset in that case.

It's telling that Pop wanted this meeting before the draft on Thursday, IMO. I think we could see a trade go down on draft night, involving picks.

It's like we're making up for 20+ years of basically zero drama. This is the kind of diva stunt that most in the fanbase feared/expected a guy like Tony Parker to pull. Not the young guy more reserved than Tim Duncan who was literally made into a star by the most admired organization in pro sports.

Goes to show sometimes you really don't know these guys at the end of the day, even with the round the clock media coverage. Kawhi/Kawhi's group have really shown their arse through this whole thing. Not saying the Spurs have handled things 100% perfectly, either, but definitely not to the point that all of a sudden the star they promised they'd build around is suddenly irrevocably offended over some really innocuous shite.

But the whole thing blows my mind. Besides just coming out of left field, what kind of star up and leaves at this juncture? The last we saw Kawhi on the court in full battle mode, SA was in the process of running the Warriors off their own court in the WCF. Most guys you'd assume would be chomping at the bit to come back and finish the job. Instead, you up and demand a trade (ok, have it leaked, whatever) to your organization's most hated rival over an injury dispute?

We probably don't have the whole story, but based on the info we have, this is the silliest thing

Weirdest NBA story in a loooong time

It doesn't even make the top three from this past season

The weirdness comes from the unlikelihood of it all. Literally any other team in the league, it would have been kinda sorta strange, but coming from the Spurs organization it's downright bizarre.

Read somewhere that Leonard’s pissy about the comments TP made about his injury

I still have to think this is about money and the Super Max not being on the table. If the Super Max were on the table we shouldn't even be having this discussion.

Kawhi made himself look like a bitch there. Parker just spelled it out for everyone. Here’s a 35 year old returning from a ruptured quad tendon 2-3 months ahead of schedule, but Leonard shuts it dowb and flees to New York over a contusion.
