I have this funny feeling the Jazz will get the #1 seed.

I don’t think they’ll make it to the finals but I think they may win a ton of games.

Mike Conley was a huge pickup for them if he can stay healthy. Rubio --> Conley one of the biggest player upgrades in the league.

I think the 3 biggest questions will be Houston, Denver, and Lakers.

Denver was really good last year but didn't add too much while some of the Western teams got a lot stronger.

Houston and the Lakers could both be really damn good this year but could have chemistry issues. They are also more vulnerabe than other teams if a starter gets injured.

I think the Mavs and Blazers are two interesting teams.

I think the Mavs could be surprisingly decent and the Blazers could be surprisingly average.

The Blazers lost a lot of guys. They lost Aminu, Curry, Harkless, Kanter, Turner, etc. They added Bazemore, Hezonja, and Whiteside. They’ve been stagnant around 40-50 wins for several years now, and I don’t think what they did made them better.

The Mavs, however, added Porzingis and Luka will take another step forward. I think they’ll miss the playoffs, but be right on the bubble.

Well I mean for the past 5 years or so Portland just kind of hangs around the 4th seed. Several teams that have been behind the Blazers in the past have made big improvements (Clippers, Lakers, Jazz), plus teams that have mostly been ahead of them the past several years are still good (Warriors, Rockets).

I feel like the Blazers are mostly the same team as they have been... they just replaced some role players with other role players. But the West has more really good teams than they have had recently, and I think the Blazers might drop a few spots not because they got worse, but because other teams got better.

Those are just my thoughts and reasoning, and it could be completely wrong.

Denver

Clippers
Lakers
Blazers
Spurs
Warriors

Thunder
Suns

Warriors can easily miss. This is a squad who will be starting McKinnie and their bench consist of Alec Burke, Glenn Robinson, Spellman, and Cauley Stein. They have no margin for error at all. If Steph miss 15 games that team would be lucky to win more than a couple game without him.

That’s because of the talent around Dame and CJ. Losing Aminu is suddenly going to hurt them? Harkless too? Cmon. It would’ve been great to keep Curry but we all saw how much Dallas (over) paid him. Kanter was a mid season pickup. Not like we’re going to really miss his production.

All that matters is that Hood continues to improve, Simons breaks out (have people forgot about him? We’re “improving” just by him getting play time) as well as seeing Collins start to figure out the game. Non transcendent bigs usually take 3-4 years to learn how to play. Collins instinctively has always been ahead of his peers however his fouling has been a problem.

I’m not saying we’re going to be the best team in the West. I just think it’s crazy to just pencil us in to the 7-10 spots again. What’s important is that the Blazers have really good guard play, can close games, and should have a good defense if Whiteside is engaged. That alone will keep us from falling.

Pdx always wins more games than they are projected to. That is a product of the leadership by dame and culture he has set in that org. That is why I have always said he’s the guy you want from that draft class.

I could see the top 4 teams go in any order, but I feel like those will for sure be the top 4 teams (barring injury). I separated the teams into tiers.

No way with the injury history of Kawhi that the clippers get the 1 seed.
