Do NBA teams really care if they lose a second round pick for tampering plus some sort of fine?
That's called the cost of doing business and will continue unless league starts really cracking down.

Brunson is a niece piece but it is not like he is some superstar or even an All-Star. Knicks lol

Is this Brunson kid the most overrated signing ever?

Had he signed with Memphis you’d never hear about it. But because he went to NYC, he’s borderline second coming.

As obvious as the Knicks were about this, we may see something worse than losing 2nds.

It isn’t quite “Kevin McHale circumvents the cap to get Joe Smith”, which wiped out multiple Minny firsts but it was incredibly blatantly obvious that full terms had been drawn up and agreed to days before free agency opened.

Is a father not allowed to talk with his son about his free agency?

Isn't the number of second round players that even make an all-star team very, very low? Like 1% low?

Knick fans act like this guy about to win them a playoff series. For being a big market team in New York, they should be getting the best players every off season. Its New York.

NBA pretending to have rules is laughable.

I think Brunson will end up putting up Kyle Lowry numbers in NY.

He is super efficient and really kicked arse in games Luka didn't play so IMO the Knicks are going to end up big winners w/his signing.

He will be putting up Kyle Lowry numbers in the bank regardless.

I’m familiar with the 3-4 playoff games, but did he dominate in regular seasons games
Luka sat out for whatever reason?

Isn’t his father the coach?

Would be almost impossible not to tamper. But should that even really count?

I've never heard of this story. This is something I have believed happens in pro sports for a long time though.

Short version is this-

Coming out of the 1998 lockout, the Wolves sign former #1 overall pick Smith to a league minimum deal. Suspicious since he had decent sized offers from multiple teams.

It comes out in a later court case that Smith and the team have pre-signed a series of one year deals. Once the Wolves had his Bird rights, they were going to sign him to a huge deal.

The league was not amused and voided Smith’s contract, suspended Kevin McHale for a year, and stripped them of numerous firsts, which fricked them during the prime of Kevin Garnett’s career.

Goddamn.

I've always just kind of assumed this happens fairly regularly in the NFL but wow. The Kirilenko/Nets deal is one that raised some eyebrows too, IIRC.

Also, at the NBA actually investigating for tampering. Unless they ever hand out punishment that'll actually hurt, it'll never stop and I don't think the league really cares.
