That was common knowledge it doesn't matter who your favorite team is. Just shows that you don't keep up much at all. Which shows that you don't have the most informed opinion. Seems solid logic to me.

whatever you say boom. I can tell from the last few pages and the majority of this thread, that your opinion is also highly regarded.

you can put whatever spin you want on this Houston offseason, but Morey got greedy, gambled to pull a big name in FA, and failed. When he could have simply just let a very young and very talented team grow up a few years and potentially be in play for multiple titles in the future. That's how everyone outside of the Rockettard fan base sees this offseason for Houston.

He was. Have you seen the contracts given out this year? Meeks? $3.33M is little to nothing for one of the best 3P shooters in the NBA.

The thing I've never understood about Morrow, he's a ridiculous shooter, obviously at 43% from 3 for his career.

But given that, why is he about to be on his 6th team in 7 seasons?

He ended up outperforming his contract last year. Also, when this year started out looking like everyone was overpaying guards, it turned out that the market value was much higher than previous years.

Keep ignoring reality, though. We relish in your delusion.

After the Rockets didn't match Parsons yesterday, I was not sure what the thinking was. Then, the more I thought about it, and the more I learned about Parsons' contract, the more clear it was.

I agree with the decision.

Here's the deal. The goal is to win a championship. Not to get to the second round or the third round. The goal is building a team that can go all the way.

By signing Parsons to that contract, the Rockets would have been locked in and committed to Parsons as their "third star" for the next few years. It would be ride or die with a core of Harden, Howard, and Parsons.

He's not good enough. He's not much better than a player like Trevor Ariza.

That's core's ceiling would fall short of winning a title. The Rockets would be very limited in the moves they would be able to make with that Parsons contract. They would have to go "all-in" with Harden, Howard, and Parsons. That core wouldn't win a title.

But now, since they did not match, they have flexibility and options. They are still looking for that 3rd piece, and they have lots of flexibility to do it.

I agree with the thinking. They were so close to landing that core to build around. But they didn't get it. And Morey didn't panic and sign Parsons to an untradeable contract that would mean they would never win a title. They regrouped, and kept their options open for another run at that third piece.

It's smart. It's like poker. This wasn't the hand to go all in on. If they land a third piece, then they will go all in.

Parsons wasn't the guy to go all in with.

No morey didn't see parsons as the third of his big three so he let him walk. It's as simple as that. Once again you have proven to not be in tune w the nba so your opinions are just something you've heard from someone else and shouldn't be respected jmo. Nothing personal against you.

This is why I wasn't sure their thinking with matching him, even moreso if Bosh was signed. That would have been a shite ton of salary for 4 guys. The problem was that they sat on their hands waiting for the Bosh decision. Right or wrong move aside, it really handcuffed them.

They would have re-signed Parsons if Bosh would have signed.

Once Bosh signed, they would go all in. They would have pushed their chips to the middle and said this is our team we're betting on to win it all.

Bosh was so close to signing. It was a last-minute move by the Heat to offer him a 5 year max.

Once that happened, the chase was over and they had to regroup and remain flexible for another run at the third piece in the future, whether through trades or free agency.

Just read the last few pages of the thread to see what outrageous thing Boom said. IMO Boom was spot on.

He gambled and lost on getting bosh and lost parsons, but being a good GM means taking calculated risks that sometimes blow up in your face. The truth is that if you get one huge FA to sign in a decade, you are winning in terms of odds. It is so hard to first pry someone away from their original team, second to compete with huge markets like New York and LA, and third to convince them that your team is close to winning a championship when they have only made it out of the first round once since '96.

Morey is a top 5 GM in the league, there is no doubt about it. This is coming from a Mavs fan. The only move that I think has been questionable in the last 5 years was acquiring an overpriced Jeremy Lin. But even that move was smart from a marketing stand point.

And this thread continues to derail as Boom continues to show why he's an idiot. Interesting correlation
