He gambled and lost on getting bosh and lost parsons, but being a good GM means taking calculated risks that sometimes blow up in your face.

This is what most "experts" have said about the situation. Not many have hammered him. Just bad luck.

wrong

he couldn't be traded to DALLAS for a year since they were the team he signed w/a as a RFA.

Actually, he was right. This is a two-part restriction:

1. He couldn't be traded to any team for one year.
2. He could't be traded to Dallas for the duration of the contract.

I really cant fathom why so many rockets fans think this was gonna happen. Parsons played for peanuts last season and really has little to no ties to Houston - why give them a discount?

Basically Houston shipped off Asik, Lin, and 2 draft picks for Ariza and some cap space

actually, I think Parsons playing for little money has far less to do with saying "frick a discount" than the fact that Morey treats players like inanimate products to be constantly moved around.

Why the hell should anyone give him a discount when odds are he will sour on and move you within a year or two if he sees a new color car he'd like to drive?

Meanwhile we have organizations like Dallas and San Antonio where longtime players (Dirk, Harris, Duncan, Parker) have gladly taken discounts b/c they enjoy playing for their bosses.

This thread is starting to suck between all the bitching and all the Rockets/Morey talk.

absolutley terrible comparison all of these guys have made over 100 million dollars in their career besides Harris who has made about 60. Parsons has made what, 3 million?

link? is that new to the new CBA?

IIRC you can trade that RFA to whoever you want (except the team that tried to sign him away) in the first year if they give you permission.

you dont get it man

players are not going to ever entertain the idea of a hometown discount for a GM that treats them like baseball cards.

There's really not much left out there. Details for Melo's contract. Rockets are trying to get Love or Rondo with little in the way of assets. Ray Allen is leaving and Delonte West is coming back. That's really the news of the day.

ETA - Eric Bledsoe and Lance Stephenson are really the best players left unsigned right now. It will be interesting to see what happens with Stephenson after he acted offended by the Pacers offer, but hasn't gotten anything better on the open market.

Maybe as the options start to dry up, he'll find a taker. Honestly, it would make sense for him to replace Wade in Miami, but I think emotions will get in the way of that.

Greg Monroe is the interesting player/scenario hanging out there.
