That would be a sneaky team in the East if they can manage to get something for Monroe.
the one to watch from now until next February. If he gets moved to right situation he could dramatically affect the playoff race.

I can't argue about that in some regards, but you have to understand that the Pistons were one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA last year
Not only that but it is Detroit, so that may take a little more convincing too

The guy seems to just think about making HUGE moves and moving assets around, as if they are cases of some product.
That is what has separated him from being just a good/serviceable GM to a great GM. He's had quite a bit of success but he is always thinking home run and that is his problem IMO

Well, yeah, that too.

Well, wasn't it pretty nice to let Parsons out of his contract a year early?

Sure was nice that it backfired
It was supposed to be:
1. sign big name star
2. match any offer sheet (assuming that it'd have been in the 10-12mil range) or assuming Parsons takes a discount to stay on the Rockets
dude ran for the $$

They only saved about 800k in cap space by declining the option right? I could understand if they were saving at least a couple mil but Parsons was so cheap. He could've been traded for a lot to a contender too.

I really cant fathom why so many rockets fans think this was gonna happen. Parsons played for peanuts last season and really has little to no ties to Houston - why give them a discount?
Basically Houston shipped off Asik, Lin, and 2 draft picks for Ariza and some cap space. #winning?

1. If HOU matched, Parsons couldn't be traded for a year
2. He wasn't going to be traded to a contender. If Houston was gonna trade Parsons it was going be to acquire a 3rd star. A contending team's star player wouldn't be on the market if they were truly contending.

Letting him go for peanuts, well actually nothing, is a mistake any way you spin it.
Why would you let the guy be a RFA if you don't match?
He was a bargain at 1mil and if you kept him, you could have gotten an asset out of it or a possible chance at a playoff run with him. The way things went, you got nothing and downgraded the roster to an extent (we all know Ariza is hot/cold and his stats last year are an outlier until proven otherwise, just like the last time yal gave him a contract).
Of course they were expecting Parsons to not get a 15mil/yr contract, but the way some of you make it sound like he was loyal to Houston. If that was the case, they could have given him whatever contract he would have been offered as a UFA by another team and he'd sign with you for it.

Possibly an agreement between Morey and Parsons/Howard's agent to get Dwight to sign last year.
Possibly they thought they had Bosh in the bag, seems like Bosh changed his mind at the last second. Reports are Bosh was told that they would match Parsons if Bosh signed with Houston.
Morey feels that you need three elite players to win a title and that there have been few exceptions throughout history. They have 2 in Howard and Harden. Had they matched on Parsons, the team would've been those 3 guys. Basically those 3 guys win one together or Harden and Howard never win one in Houston. There wouldn't have been room to improve the team. Morey feels that by not matching he can get his 3rd star.
As a fan you don't always agree but Morey has done some outstanding things in Houston and I don't see why he can't pull the 3rd star that he's looking for.

The story is the contract Dallas got him to sign made it so hard to trade him that was what ultimately what forced them not match.

How does he plan on getting a third star now? Trading pieces(Ariza, Jones, Beverley and picks)?

Well that's what they're saying. They've also said they would've matched anyway had Bosh signed.

Yes, their will be a lot of minutes going to cheap, unproven, young players to start the season. If a couple of these guys play well they could possibly be packaged with pics. Guys like Canaan, Covington, Johnson, Jones, Daniels, etc.

more brilliant logic. If you live in a city, by default, your favorite team must be the team within that city and you must know every detail of the front office's ongoing offseason business.
got me again Boom. shucks. spin spin spin.

I just don't know about that unless those guys prove they can be solid starters. Would Boston really trade Rondo for Jones, a couple young role players, and some mid-round 1st's? I doubt it.

Rondo and Bledsoe would be the only 2 I could see their teams making a trade like that. The Celtics are going to be spending a lot of cap space on their backcourt in the upcoming years and so are the Suns, so they could potentially be interested in a trade scenario like that.
