I get that Pels had his Bird Rights so could go over the cap to sign him, and a 2nd year without guarantees is very useful in trade for matching purposes...
but 7 million for Darius? I don't know man. Strange one to me.
He's an excellent 3 point shooter but doesn't give much else.

A prominent poster on realgm posted that masai was at a hotel this morning and picked out a conference room for today. He had pics and everything but he's gone private now. He's followed by the Toronto raptors on Twitter.

The contract for Darius Miller had to be for a minimum of 2 seasons because NOP is using the early bird provision to sign him. The Pelicans had an advantage with his $2.8M cap hold, allowing the team to use cap space (trades/FA signing) and still exceed the cap to sign Miller..
Looks like it this is purely a move that is for future trade assets along with Gayle just spending over the cap since she can. It's not a true 7 million the first year towards the cap.

Trading Miller at 7M, Moore at 8M with the 125% you can take back in salary puts the salary around 19M for the player they'd get in return. Pelicans can keep young guys like Kenrich and Wood who they believe could possibly develop into decent bench pieces in a couple of years. Or they can add them in with some 2nd rounders to raise the by another 4M or so.

If the second year is non guaranteed it’s a nice salary for matching purposes at the deadline or next summer. I think that’s why. He’s def not worth 7m a year

Miller take wide open threes bc no one cares to guard him. and still shot a worse % than harden who shoots more heavily contested threes than anyone ever.

Miller signing is to move him at the deadline for a bigger piece or he turns into a nice expiring to pair with Moore.
