Did this open up enough for the Butler deal to go through?

Toronto is by far the most fricked if Kawhi leaves IMO. East got even more competitive and I think Green leaves as well, and they won't have a lot of avenues to improve. Clippers have a lot of good young players and some depth, and will have future cap space as well as some draft picks. They will be ok. Lakers will still have AD and Lebron, although short term they will be a in bit of a bind.
Yes, but I think Toronto knew this going into the Kawhi trade. They likely blow it up at the deadline/now if they hadn't made thay trade.

Portland gave away a D level player (Moe) and an F level player (Leonard) for a C level player. It’s a great trade for Portland and Miami too because Whiteside has been a cancer there.

[Wojnarowski] Portland gets a starting caliber center on an expiring deal as it awaits Jusuf Nurkic's return from a serious leg injury. Blazers offseason: Whiteside, Kent Bazemore, retain Rodney Hood and draft Nassir Little. Another Western contender loading up.

I’m curious what that means for Butler

I love that move for Portland

Neil Olshey is such a good GM. The dummy’s I listen to here DAILY in Portland try to find fault with him in every move. He’s by far our best GM we’ve had in the last twenty years.

Weren’t the Raptors something like 17-5 last year without Kawhi in the lineup? I don’t see why they can’t be like last year’s Clippers and have a good season and make the playoffs next year even without a proverbial star. They are still a really good team.

Yea they were. They still would have a great shot for a top 4 seed.

Clears the room they needed for him. And ensures that butler doesn’t commit murder on Whiteside at some point in his career

I think he means their contending status is fricked. It doesn’t take much to make the playoffs in the East. The raptors can certainly still win 45 games without Kawhi. They’re going to be cannon fodder though to the big dogs.

Portland is having a low key very nice offseason. Whiteside is a big expiring they could pair with one or some of their interesting young guys (Simons/Little/Collins) to get something bigger at the deadline also

Whiteside is getting out of a place he hated to play for a WCF participant. This is his last chance to secure a good contract. He will play his butt off and do way more than Enes Kanter did.

Lakers can forget about Seth Curry. Woohoo! The rest of the league needs to continue loading up and taking away their options!

KD already in his feelings.
