These low numbers don’t surprise me. However, with Toronto winning, I think numbers will be up for game two possibly

This. ABC is lucky GS didn't win last night or else Game 2 would likely be even worse.

Y'all do realize Canada doesn't count in the ratings? Of course it's going to be lower than usual.

That percentage is too big to be the small fraction of a fan base who is only tuning in to watch their hometown team. Most of those fans of a team will watch the league championship at least casually. previous viewers such as myself who are no longer watching because it’s a fixed and tired product.

That also is of zero consolation to ABC who paid money to air it and companies who paid money to advertise.

Lol classic homerism. I agree East is the worst, especially for late night sports (seriously NBA finals starting 9 p.m. on a weeknight).

Pacific is without question the best. Still some night left after watching

This was expected. And it was warned before the finals. With it being in Canada you do not get the true ratings. Nothing to see here.

So is it exclusive to this year that Canada won’t factor into ratings?
So you are telling me that 12% of the viewers are ride or die Cleveland fans who would never watch the finals under any other circumstances? What about the drop from the year before?

all of the warrior and cav finals were the highest rated NBA finals of the post MJ NBA world. 2016 and 2017 were huge ratings successes. mainly due from the fact of lebrons utter historical greatness in 2016 and the intrigue of the warriors war path for revenge with KD in 2017. 2018 didnt have either of those and even then, was still the fouth highest rated NBA finals since MJ retired, only beaten by the three previous iterations of the cavs and warriors

fact is no lebron and a canadian team with storylines that the average casual fan cares nothing about is what led to a weak game 1. i bet we see a bump in these ratings given the fact that the raptors actually won and have taken a series lead

Elementary is more interesting than the Toronto raptors.

if you wouldn't want to hang out with Lucy Lu instead of any or all of the Toronto Raptors then you are not woke.

What? No. Lebron has fans from all over. But Toronto and Canada is much more tuned in to this series than they were last year. Probably enough to make up that difference.

The Cleveland Market accounted for .44 ratings points last year.

Toronto's population is 7.5 times bigger. Think about that. That is 3.3 more points there if they get the same viewership as Cleveland. Which puts the ratings the same or higher than last year. Not to mention they are probably pulling a ton from the country of Canada in general outside of Toronto. This is a first for them.
