I'm guessing there is the possibility Kershaw demanded the rock and what exactly do you do when the best pitcher on the planet tells you that.
Tell him that his job is to pitch, not set the lineups.

Roberts and the Dodgers FO are clearly bright people,
honestly i was thinking opposite. Roberts may not be far removed enough from playing to make a sound decision to give him proper rest. This seems like an emotional decision on his part.

Most likely, they feel their bullpen is gassed and don't trust Urias to give them innings with nobody really available for long relief. Then, they will have everyone rested for game 5 and won't need much from Hill. Heck, they might even wind up starting Urias if they get there.

The injuries he's had this year would be a little concerning. I would probably go with Urias and be prepared to bust out the whole staff in this one if needed, then ride Kershaw in Game 5. There is no easy answer though (obviously). I would be interested to see the list of pitchers who have started on short rest in the playoffs.

They will not start a rookie on the road in an elimination game. They should start him at home, at least then he is a comfortable situation

I will never understand paying a guy who players once every 5 days over 30 million

If Kershaw makes 32 starts, he will face more batters than any hitter will have PAs.

100% yes.
Have to win today. Saving players for games that may not happen is ridiculous.
They'd be lucky to get 5 innings out of the kid. Not ready for this kind of pressure.

You also have to win tomorrow. Each game is equally important.
On full rest, its debatable. But the Kershaw you get today, won't be the same as tomorrow.

Who do you think is gonna pitch in game 5 on the road??

there is no tomorrow without today. Seriously this aint the regular season, it's win or go home. You must put your best out there today.

Hill if not the kid. Dodgers bullpen is taxed already, they need 7 innings from their SP TODAY. and if you can get Kershaw and a win today the dodgers are set up better than they are today IMO.
ETA: barry i respect your baseball knowledge and opinions except on this one
I just think you aren't seeing the forest through the trees. Hoping for a good game

But there is no NLCS without both.

Woah. This entire thread shows why so many people struggle with the basics of game theory.

Is this the de facto game thread? Gonzalez just hit a two run dong

Thank god for this easy shut down inning

sure.

finally they need to get him going.
Kershaw had a tough first but smoothed out in the second. He looks strong IMO

The point is to win the series, not game 4. You have to give yourself the best chance to win both games, not just game 4.
Hill is gonna be pretty useless on short rest. It's Urias and Kershaw. So you might as well

frick the MLB for screwing us on these start times the entire series.
Posted on 10/11/16 at 4:46 pm to DallasTiger11
Yea they can get their pussys grabbed
Posted on 10/11/16 at 4:46 pm to barry
Also this is a small sample size so win or lose this doesn't prove what the Dodgers did was right or wrong.
Posted on 10/11/16 at 4:58 pm to barry
Even if the Dodgers win they will lose game 5. Hill has never pitched on 3 days rest, has had blisters all year, and they will not start Urias.
Should have pitched Urias today vs Ross because they will need someone to shut down the Nats tomorrow. Max isn't going to give up 6 and would have been a great duel.
