So he is not going on 3 days either. He is going on short rest but not 3 as the title suggests.

Okay, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... he is pitching on 3 days rest, just like the title says.

That means he has three rest days between starts instead of the usual four.

To me 3 days is what you saw the Twins do in 87 and Cards do in WS in the 60's

3 Starters only and go with it. But I thought they had a travel day including the rain out initially so I was wrong about the days rest.

I still pitch him and soon as there is any trouble go the bullpen.

Dodgers rode Orel Hershisher in the playoffs in 1988.

He started 3 games against the Mets and came in relief in the 9th two other times. He pitched something like 25 innings in the NLCS.

You ride your big dog as much as feasible.

No I explained why. You are a fan of wanting everyone to have pitch counts etc. You threw a fit in CWS and NCAAB also about the same type of thing.

You probably despise long tossing also.

Sorry, are you trying to say that overuse of pitchers doesn't lead to injury?

I have no problems with throwing a ball long distances. Why would I?

Since they are the road team and are hitting first, could they put Kershaw in the lineup but sub him out if they say, score multiple runs in the first inning? Does he have to throw 1 pitch before they sub him?

Isn't there a normal start day routine for a pitcher that makes this a bad idea?

Well if you would quote my whole post, i ask that. I'm not sure how taxing it is compared to a normal bullpen session.

Because you complain about overuse, you should know why I mentioned it because of your constant strain/overuse complaints.

We had this conversation in the regionals about the theories and we discussed long toss the studies etc.

No. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I’ve read that pitchers perform materially worse on short rest. And Kershaw is still working his way back from injury.

Plus you still have to win 2 games and game 5 in Washington versus Scherzer is probably the tougher one to win. Urias is good. Let him go 4-5 innings and then empty out the pen.

All this has already been mentioned, but it seems like starting Urias is a clear call.

It is faulty logic, but you will never convince coaches or fans of this

Did i mention overuse in this thread? I have no problems with a guy with a 9 figure contract throwing on short rest from an abuse standpoint. The dodgers incentives are aligned with the players. I'm concerned about the actual effectiveness of Kershaw on short rest with 2 games to go.

Look if its game 5, you throw him. Its not, you have to win one more and likely will have the same 2 guys starting 4 & 5 so why not pitch Kershaw on full days rest.

This happens in every MSB thread about short rest. People on here talk about rest days like Seinfeld in "The Pen":

quote:

It's one day. Half a day, really. I mean you substract showers and meals, it's like twenty minutes. It will go by like that. (snapping his fingers)

quote:

Well today's almost over. And weekdays always go by fast. Friday we're leaving. It's like two days really. It's like a cup of coffee. It will go by like that. (snapping his fingers)

Absolutely not.

This is a terrible decision. If they had someone else to pitch game 5 on full rest it might make sense (i.e. if game 2 had not been postponed), but there is very little chance Kershaw and Hill both win on short rest. By far their best chance is to steal game 4 against Ross then have Kershaw outduel Shcerzer in game 5.

Exactly.

Obvious case of the manager not wanting to get second-guessed by losing with their ace on the bench.

Roberts has made unpopular decisions that he thought were in the teams best interest too, like pulling Hill and Stripling from a perfect game bid and a no-hitter bid.

True... then it should definitely be a no-brainer to start Urias and then Kershaw.

That's the plan they set at the beginning of the series, no need to stray now when they have to win both to advance.

I'm guessing there is the possibility Kershaw demanded the rock and what exactly do you do when the best pitcher on the planet tells you that.

I wish B-mac could comment on this, but I'm guessing that would be frowned upon.

Roberts and the Dodgers FO are clearly bright people, I imagine there is a reason outside of upsetting fans, but I don't see what it is.
