Who remembers the Shreveport pirates they played home games at independence stadium. I’m trying to remember what league they were in. It could have been a Canadian football league with punting on 3rd down but I’m not sure. It was early 90s

It was the Canadian League during their US expansion experiment, which gave us the Pirates, Baltimore Stallions, Birmingham Barracudas, Memphis Maddogs, LasVegas Posse, San Antonio Texans, and Sacramento Gold Miners. I went to several games as a kid and still have some memorabilia. The franchise was run extremely poorly and produced a bad product on the field, but I was ecstatic having a “pro” team in my hometown.

Shreveport also had a semi pro basketball team but I forgot the name, league , or pretty much anything about it

Shreveport Crawdads of the Continental Basketball Association played in Hirsch for 1 or 2 seasons in the mid-90s.

It did not get any better. My rec team even got like a 10 minute mini-game on the floor of the Dome at half one night. It was thrilling for a little kid.

So many Thrashers responses. Did they enter the NHL at the wrong time?

Seems like modern day Atlanta would love hockey.

Terrible ownership. Used to be my favorite sport to go to live. Atlanta would absolutely support a Hockey team in today’s world but not sure the NHL ever gives us a shot again.
