I take no pleasure in telling you that restricting the ability to contract is the antithesis of a free market.
What contracts are being restricted?

All performance-based contracts.

Yeah the sport has never been better!
The game was better (for fans) before NIL, but it was on borrowed time. It’s like buying a car, never changing the oil, and then saying the car sure was better before the engine breakdown. Well, yeah, of course, but the engine breakdown was inevitable as the mileage piled up - just like amateurism in college football was bound to collapse as the money grew and grew and grew.

Free market,
If they had it so bad the athletes could have just told the NCAA and the entire structure to frick off and go play in one of the other organizations created by the free market for 18-20 year olds.

They got too big for the model of not giving players anything, sorry. It's not a bleeding heart issue
If players aren’t unionized, can a lockout by the big conferences work? The TN QB held his team hostage, can the president of a university do the same thing? The players need CFB a lot more than the schools do

They both need each other pretty damn bad. The schools are making tens of millions a year

No university big enough to be in the P4 “needs” their athletic revenue. They can all get it from other sources

College football needs a commissioner and his name is Nick Saban.

If NIL were real and the supposed rules of NIL were ever followed this wouldn’t be the shite show it’s turned into. It was always BS

There’s a part of me that would love to see college sports fall apart so that all of the media people who think the players should get everything would lose their own jobs from not having college sports to cover any more.

It's an unregulated free market.

The sport was not better before NIL. It was better for the top 15 schools and fanbases who used booster money to buy players. If you are a fan of one of those schools you had a good run and of course loved the sport.
For the other hundred schools who didn’t buy players and who were thrilled to get one or two 4 star players every few years the sport was not better. For every fan who leaves the sport you will easily be replaced by fanbases who have suffered under the “booster” and “probation” era.
Add the expanded playoffs and you have a lot of fanbases who are excited for the future because they can now buy players who are depth pieces for other schools and they have a path to then playoffs. Just because this board is upset that now they are getting shaken down by their moronic players doesn’t mean everyone else upset.

No surprise at all. NiL and unlimited transfer has killed college sports

I think all SEC schools should boycott the playoffs this coming season until everyone agrees the sport is dying. I’m sure no other fanbases will be excited to take your place on national TV and make millions.

College is not worth what they charge the average student.
It is absolutely worth going for free.
It's sad that this had to be explained to you. Please don't tell me you're college educated.

If this keeps up, it won't be making millions for long. Fans have no interest in this sort of entitlement.

Then they’ll forever have an asterisk by their championship

Is NIL a contract?
If so write playoff / bowl language into it in which they sacrifice 50% of the contract by no playing.

Revoke their school scholarships. If they want to continue attending the university they threatened and play for them, then they can pay for tuition via their NIL income.
If not, they can go play in some minor league or the current version of USFL.
