1975 Bama vs Mizzou, the Tony Galbreath game. It was a huge shocker at the time.

Bama hadn't lost a regular season game in 2 years and this was the opener for both teams in prime time in Birmingham...and a mediocre Missouri team won easily. Bama didn't lose again that season.

Great pick. Under the radar. NW had some close ones that year. If they win that, they get to the Rose with some possible natty hopes.

One I can’t explain is ULM actually beat a Nick Saban coached team in Tuscaloosa.

2004 Penn State - Iowa. 6-4 Iowa. Both of the PSU safeties were due to the Iowa punter intentionally stepping out of the end zone to avoid a return or block. Both of Iowa’s FG’s came off of PSU turnovers inside their own 20.

LSU-Auburn 1994.

Auburn's defense scored all of its TD's in 30-26 win.

it was the first time I saw a game live at Joran Hare Stadium. I had a friend from school invite me to go with his family to this game.

the whole way up there this guy's father was just bragging about how Auburn football was so special and I thought "sure thing buddy" in my own mind but boy was he right for that particular day.

Auburn's offense didn't hardly do a thing that day and it didn't matter.

but keep in mind this extended Auburn's winning streak to 15-in-a-row at the time so it's not like they were a bunch of pushovers.

Texas victory over Nebraska in the 1996 B12 Championship Game. Nebraska 10-1 ranked #3. Texas came in 7-4 and unranked.

2001 Oklahoma State beating OU in Norman. OU was 10-1 and was ranked #4 and Ok St was 3-7 entering the game.

I was about to mention that game. It was my second year at LSU and we were expecting great things that season. That season opening loss was a major disappointment, but the Tigers got everything together and finished #4. Dietzel once said the 61 Tigers was the best team he coached.

Equally inexplicable was the 6-6 tie with Rice in 1962. I was at that game – we were looking for payback for Rice’s spoiling the 61 season. LSU was ranked #5 going into that game, but couldn’t put Rice away. A bobbled snap on the XP led to the loss. Interestingly, Rice finished the 62 season with a 2-6-2 record. The other tie was against the #1 ranked Texas Longhorns. LSU finished the season with a convincing shutout win against Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

In 2009 under Sherman we lost to K State 62-14 then came back the next week and beat a pretty good Tech team 52-30. Tech had beaten K State 66-14 two weeks before (the week before we played K State).

We finished 6-7, K State finished 6-6, Tech finished 9-4 and in the top 25. Any time someone tries to use the transitive property to predict a game I think about this

Arizona State beating Nebraska 19-0 in 1996

Nebraska was the 2-time defending National Champs. 26 game winning streak. ASU had 3 safeties in that game. Didn’t lose until the Rose Bowl.

The most inexplicable thing about that game was LSU's offensive playcalling in the second half. LSU had a comfortable, but diminishing, lead well into the second half, yet continued to air it out, which led to all of the interceptions.

Two for Auburn are the 01 Iron Bowl and the 06 UGA game.

01 Bama was garbage and playing a backup QB, AU was coming off a huge road win in Athens and playing to go to Atlanta. Got handled like 31-7.

06 AU was in the national title picture and UGA was like 5-4 or something with a true freshman QB coming into JHS. Brandon Cox threw a bunch of picks, down 30-7 at halftime. Tubs never fully recovered.

#2 USC losing the last game of the season to a 6-5 UCLA team in 2006. And by a score of 13-9.

USC hadn't scored less than 10 points in 5 years.

That's right!

I didn't think about it at the time cause i was only a 12 year old kid and i'd never been to Auburn before.

but nostalgia wise i've gone back and watched it on Youtube trying to put together memories better. When I have gone back and watched that game I can't believe the mismanagement from LSU's side.

they had a good lead in that game in the 2nd half like you said and then helped set it on fire.

Colorado - 62 Nebraska - 36

I've never seen an elite team shellacked like that by a pretty good team.

Colorado, playing "power run football," typically with two-tight ends and in a single back, ran for almost 400 yards.

If you go back and watch the game or highlights, you'll be stunned by the gaping holes in the middle of Nebraska's defense.

It was like watching a high school game when one school or player is vastly superior to an inferior school. You don't see that kind of disparity much between top 15 teams.

I remember watching this one. NU had the huge win over Oklahoma earlier and was rolling toward the title. Crouch was THE man. Suddenly, they hit the wall in Boulder. Chris Brown and Bobby Purify running free. Bobby Pesavento hitting Daniel Graham for big plays.

That CU team rode that momentum to a win over Texas in Irving for the Big 12 title. Tennessee’s win in The Swamp right before kickoff meant Texas was looking at facing Miami in Pasadena if they could beat Colorado, who they already beat 41-7 earlier in the year. Texas started fine, then the turnover bug hit Chris Simms. Major Applewhite almost led an improbable comeback.

You can probably blame the defensive coordinator.

Nebraska played super aggressive on D and ran themselves out of plays.

I remember the announcers, circling the middle of the field after a big run by Colorado and saying "where are Nebraska's linebackers?"

It was like Nebraska was playing with two less guys. Linebackers went awol either by themselves or by coach's design and play-calling.

Les Miles...dude pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Then doubled down and beat the Sooners again next year.
