Nebraska was the 2-time defending National Champs. 26 game winning streak. ASU had 3 safeties in that game. Didn’t lose until the Rose Bowl.

I remember staying up late on a Saturday night watching that one.

LSU vs Tennessee 2005

Les Miles first home game at LSU. LSU was leading 21-0 at halftime and 24-7 in the fourth quarter. Bo Pelini has the defense playing off and Rick fricking Clausen leads Tennessee back. Tennessee won in overtime.

Tennessee went on to finish 5-6 while that was LSU's only regular season loss.

Appalachian State beating Michigan @ Michigan.

I know it wasn’t a blowout, but that one was a stone cold surprise.

I almost broke my phone that day. That game was the original debut of the B1G network, didn't get it and none of the bars/restaurants did either. Had to listen on the radio. When that FG was blocked, chucked my phone hard at the kitchen, hit the stove... remarkable the RAZR phone didn't break

It could have been worse I guess... my cousin and uncle were at the game.

2008 USC-Oregon State

That USC team was so good.

USC playing in Corvallis was their kryptonite.

Due to a scheduling quirk USC had mostly played Oregon State at home for the past 40 years.

Since the "Giant Killers" who defeated OJ's #1 Trojans in 1967 by a score of 3-0. USC still won the National Title despite being shutout in that game which was a bizarre anomaly to their season.

Then USC won 24 straight against Oregon State but finally went back up to Corvallis and almost lost in 2004 and then lost in 2006 by 2 points and then lost again in 2008 by 6 points.

Every team has their boogeyman on the road. And that high school stadium proved to be USC's. USC played their best on the big stage but struggled in the backwaters and Oregon State at home seemed to revel in the obscurity and thrive on a major upset being their season. They almost beat LSU In 2004 save for missed extra points and that was in Death Valley.

When they had their Trojan super teams, going to Corvallis was upset city.

Great post. I'll always be a little bitter we didn't get to see 2008 Florida against 2008 USC. That Florida offense going against that USC defense with

Rey Maualuga
Brian Cushing
Clay Matthews
Taylor Mays
Everson Griffen

Would have been a treat to watch.

Oregon State won 9 or 10 games that year and played Oregon on Thanksgiving weekend with a conference title and a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line. They were pretty good too.

I believe the Texas/UCLA game in the OP is the biggest “spread miss” by oddsmakers in history.

It was 1999 in Birmingham, AL

Bama had two players on the heisman watch list in Shaun Alexander and Freddie Milons. Florida and Spurrier were still near the height of their powers and Alabama beat them twice that season. They fell in overtime to Tom Brady and Michigan to finish the season 10-3. The other two losses came to Tennessee, who were the defending national champions, and Louisiana Tech, despite 263 all purpose yards in the game from Alexander. Bama just could not stop the Tech aerial assault. A young Rise watched it live in the old gray lady

Recently rewatched that game a few years ago on SEC network. Won of the saddest L’s so I am not sure why I did.

LSU was completely gassed in the second half. It was like a boxer going for the knock in the early rounds and not getting it. The defense had nothing left by the 4th.

2005 LSU with Saban and a full 05 recruiting glass would have be an absolute unit. That team was so stacked with talent that it wasn’t until 08 that the lost class caught up to Miles

They had 3 OT games, could've had 5 losses that year so not really stacked.

Every ranked team they played that year besides Miami they beat by 4 points or less.

I stayed up for this one as well. In hindsight, ASU was great...but it STILL seems like such a huge upset. Teams just didn’t do that to the Huskers.

I remember getting home late that night, turned on the tv midway thru the game and was astonished at the score. Figured Nebraska would come back but ASU defense dominated.

Most inexplicable in terms of how the game unfolded was Camback 2010.
Bama could do 0 wrong for almost the entire first half. Then one by one, every bounce, every break, you name it, went Auburns way.

UCLA pulled off another crazy one in 2019.

UCLA was down 49-17 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. They won 67-63 in regulation

UCLA scored 29 points in 4 minutes and 20 seconds. They scored 50 in the final 18 minutes.

The WSU QB threw 9 TDs in a losing effort.
