This will probably get lost in the middle pages of this thread, but I'll go ahead and relate my brush with athletic greatness.
I was living in Houston in the mid 70s, my brother lived in Baton Rouge but was in Houston for a meeting. I went to his hotel near the AstroDome to meet for drinks after work, and sat down on a large sofa in the lobby to wait for his meeting to finish. After a few minutes an elderly gentleman sat down on the other end of the sofa and he was joined a few minutes later by a short african-america who sat down next to me. They were eventually joined by a number of other persons I recognized as members of the Los Angles Dodgers who were playing the Astros that night. I realized the elderly gentleman was Walt Alston, then the Dodgers manager, and the africa-american sitting next to me was Jimmy Winn. I had a brief, but pleasant conversation with Walt Alston. I was hoping my brother would come into the lobby so I could introduce him to my new friends, but the Dodgers had to catch their bus to the AstroDome before my brothers meeting ended.

How can I forget about him. I met him at a baseball card show in the 80's. Both myself and my Mom got an autographed baseball by him. I still have both.

rode the escalator with Kobe Bryant. Two steps behind him. Didn't talk though because the bodyguard was intense.

Sat next to Drew Brees on a plane in April. Talked to him nearly the whole time and took a picture with him afterwards.

My father went to school with lee smith, and they were friends still later in life. He used to stop by my dads shop a lot.
Growing up in coushatta, I met joe adcock several times and had an autographed photo of him when I was little.
I asked tommy lasorda a question on a field trip, and afterwards he found my teacher and told him my question was the best of the day.
I got mike modano's autograph on my stars sweater. He looked me in the eyes, reached out his hand for me to shake, and said "thanks for comin out." I was then escorted out by security for humping his leg

Way late to the party, but.... I've met lots. Two stand out, because I was able to talk to both for extended periods.
Went to some thing at the Atrium celebrating the Negro Leagues or something. VERY sparsely attended. I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with this guy for about 30 minutes. Arguably the most interesting person I have ever met.
In a similar vein, I went to Miss. State out of high school. I went to one of the early season exhibition games (against those crappy travelling squads). MSU did general admisson for these things. I plopped down pretty close to the court next to this exceptionally tall guy, who had a MASSIVE Celtics championship ring on his finger. The powers of deductive reasoning led me to figure out it was this guy:
Spent the remainder of the game talking to him about playing in the NBA, playing at LSU, about MSU and Starkville in general. Very nice guy.

I've met Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Jay Novacek and Troy Aikman along with another 7 or 8 Dallas role players back in 96.
Got to have lunch with Warrick Dunn in Iraq. To me he's the most overall impressive guy I've ever met. All class. Larry Izzo accompanied him and he was just as impressive.
Also got to kick it with Diamond Dallas Page if you want to consider him a "sports figure" which I do because he is an outstanding athlete, even in his old broken down age. Dude could still dunk a basketball and chunk a football about 60 yards without really trying to throw his arm out. He was very cool. He turned me onto Yoga when I was going through some back problems and shared some pretty cool stories about his career.

people say a lot of negative shite about him, but he was all class when I met him. Granted it was at a football camp, but he spent about 2 hours shooting the shite with us and it was one of the greatest times of my life. He was very nice, cordial and just talked to us like we were part of his team. Just about regular shite and stuff you'd talk about in a locker room. It was surreal.

Michael Jordan
When I was a kid I got to throw out the first pitch at a Birmingham Barons game. Before the game I got to walk over and meet the team... Including MJ. He was very nice to me and my Dad and signed a baseball for me that sits in my office to this day. Ill never be able to top that one

Jack Del Rio and Cooper Manning at a bar last year.

Oh I met Eli Manning at the Memphis International Airport too. He was standing by the bar at Porky's BBQ and was pretty short and unfriendly. But you can't really blame the guy. He also seemed a bit tipsy
and met Brian Billick at Heathrow Airport in London on the same trip. He was nice, shook hands and posed for a quick picture with my traveling buddy. But I felt kind of faggy taking a picture with him.

Charles Barkley accidentally knocked me down in a bar...he had his body guard by me a beer. Also, drank with former Reds catcher, Joe Oliver as well back in the mid 90's.
