There’s no way it happens just due to the fact that they’ve said the players would be isolated from their families for up to 4 1/2 months.

quote:

The logistics to pull off such a plan would be enormous and cumbersome on the league side and require the buy-in of players, who sources expect to be skeptical of separating from their families for an indefinite amount of time -- perhaps as long as 4½ months, if the inability to stem the coronavirus outbreak keeps teams from playing in their home stadiums in 2020.

I'll take it. I'm glad the PGA got the ball rolling yesterday with its announced 2020 schedule. MLB needs to be next. The ratings may be off the charts!!

Best case would be a transition back to the home parks by July (maybe not in a few hot spots).

The Red Sox? There was at least some anticipation of the report. It was gonna get buried as it was with the regular season starting and now I’m not sure there will ever even be one

They should let 1 fan in. No harm in that.

the simple fact that the union and owners are actually discussing it with each other is a very positive sign

A WestCoastAg post I actually agree with? Well I'll be damned.

Exactly. Jeff Passan said on ESPN that one player texted him in the morning "no way" then after talking to his wife changed his mind by the afternoon.

Over the past 2 weeks?

That's going to be a few teams and a shite ton of staff.

Then what happens when players from 3-4 other teams, or staff members test positive, then what?

I'd love for it to happen, specifically with the NBA for me, but it's just a recipe for a PR disaster as I think the likelihood of actually finishing the season successfully is pretty low. Someone will get it, and whoever that someone is will have been exposed to a ton of people who, in theory, should be self quarantining then.

It basically comes down to the Astros no longer will get the same negative reaction game to game, will have their draft penalties not be as severe in practice, and the injury to Verlander is basically wiped out

Or the red sox who will now probably never have their report release and my never have their punishment publicly announced. I'm leaning Astros still but a legit debate between the two

And on the flipside, my basketball and baseball teams are the two probably hurt the most out of this which is how the universe usually works

For baseball, I don’t see a May return. I see a mid-June/July return.

That gives the nation more time to gain a better understanding of the virus, more fast result testing kits available, the nation definitely way on the other end of the peak.

And I think that’s doable.

Yup. I hope people don’t forget, but I have the feeling they’ll get off the hook in regards to opposing fan reaction.

I have zero faith that there will be a full season, if one at all regardless of whatever ideas they all explore. The liability is far too high in regards to owners if someone gets sick and dies.

I guess the MLBPA could accept that they are playing at their own risk, but I don’t see it happening.

Therefore, Verlander is getting up there in age. They get off the injury hook with him here, but he’ll likely be a year older by the time he takes the rubber again. He won’t keep it up and Houston’s window is closing.

There he is. Seriously how many Astros posts have you or your West Coast Aggie friend started or, more annoyingly, hijacked other posts to talk about the Astros in last 4 months?
You two have serious coping issues.
Yeh, that's the biggest tragedy of all of this: that there is less time to boo the Astros.

I think it’s a situation where in an alternate covid free universe the Astros were gonna bear the PR hit disproportionately between the two and go a full season with extremely hostile crowds. Now IF there is a season there is a strong strong possibility of limited to no crowds and a general let bygones be bygones let’s go have fun not show up to be angry at opposing players mentality from the fans who can go. The Astros clearly benefit from a PR standpoint

On the other hand the Red Sox would be repeat offenders and based on reports some people had been giving conflicting statements which laid the possibility that Manfred took them to be concealing stuff and hammered them harder on an organizational level than the Astros. It would end up kinda being a 5-10 minute segment on mlb tonight (rather than entire shows like the Astros in the offseason) because the regular season would be ongoing and fans would be paying attention to their own teams.
