seems like Florida would make more sense between the 2 MLB teams, spring training and colleges all in that state.

the grapefruit league and facilites are more spread out among the state which would be worse for this situation

Until Florida gets smashed by 12 hurricanes and throws and even bigger monkey wrench into this situation. Arizone seems plausible. Or Coors Field and let the players get completely stoned before every game.

Wonder how much of an advantage this gives the Dbacks who can go home while everyone else is in hotels. Would everyone else stay at the same hotel the entire time or move around depending on where the next game is?

They will need more than 11 parks to run an efficient schedule

There are 14 cites in FL all within a 4hr drive. Thats not bad

i highly doubt they really care about efficiency at this point

and every single site in arizona is in the pheonix metro area. it would be really difficult to handle player contact with other people when they are traveling from city to city as opposed to everything being in one central location

thats why every single suggestion for this has been arizona and not florida

thats what is being discussed. you would probably get a day game and a night game at the spring training facilities and will get, supposedly, triple headers at chase field

Chase Field, with artificial turf and a retractable roof, could be the site of daily tripleheaders, Boras said.

I’m assuming if they’re willing to play 3 in a day at Chase, a few of the other fields could handle 2. I’m not sure I see the need to try to squeeze 3 in at Chase, though, if they’re going with no fans. Seems 2 would be plenty. This is all so damn wild, though.

Passan with a lengthy article on this.

The plan, sources said, would dictate all 30 teams play games at stadiums with no fans in the greater Phoenix area, including the Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field, 10 spring training facilities and perhaps other nearby fields. Players, coaching staffs and other essential personnel would be sequestered at local hotels, where they would live in relative isolation, and travel only to the stadium and back, sources said.

Federal officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Health have been supportive of a plan that would adhere to strict isolation, promote social distancing and allow MLB to become the first professional sport to return.
The May return date depends on a number of concerns being allayed, and some officials believe a June opening day could be more realistic, sources said.

Most important would be a significant increase in available coronavirus tests with a quick turnaround time, which sources familiar with the plan believe will happen by early May and allow MLB's testing not to diminish access for the general public.

quote:

Both sides acknowledge the uniqueness of the season would not be limited to stadium location or roster size. Among the possibilities that have been discussed among people from both sides, though not in the talks Monday, according to sources:
• Implementing an electronic strike zone to allow the home-plate umpire to maintain sufficient distance from the catcher and batter
• No mound visits from the catcher or pitching coach
• Seven-inning doubleheaders, which, with an earlier-than-expected start date, could allow baseball to come closer to a full 162-game season
• Regular use of on-field microphones by players, as an added bonus for TV viewers
• Sitting in the empty stands 6 feet apart - the recommended social-distancing space - instead of in a dugout

ncluding the Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field, 10 spring training facilities and perhaps other nearby fields
they could probably also use ASUs and GCUs fields if need be. they have the facilities to make this work

Jesus some of those stipulations are preposterous.

Social distancing is out of hand.
