The Mets believe internally that they will end up trading infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, Mike Puma of the New York Post writes in an update on the team’s deadline situation

Aside from Cabrera and top trade piece Addison Reed, the Mets are said to be receiving middling interest in their pending free agents — despite the fact that all are playing rather well

Wonder if they can work out a *wink* *wink* deal like the Yankees had with Chapman. Trade Yu for prospects then resign in the off-season

That's my dream scenario
it's just hard to get a read because it seemed like they wanted to get a deal done in the off-season but Daniels said no

Florial is having an awesome year. Only 19 years old and in A-ball tho. If he's the centerpiece of the deal, I think the Yankees would do it. They just don't want to give up high-level prospects that can help them in the next couple of seasons. Florial is probably 3 years away.
Plus, these low-level outfielders in the Yankees' system are just blocked. Judge, Frazier, Hicks, Fowler, etc. are all under team control for a good while. Plus they'll likely be players for an outfielder in the 2018 winter sweepstakes.

It's funny how the Trade deadline has changed over the years. 10 years ago, a bat like Jay Bruce (20+ HRs) would have had suitors lining up to add that bat to their line up. Now, position players aren't getting much interest, it's mostly pitchers moving at the deadline.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network said yesterday that the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs have been engaged in trade talks involving starting pitcher Justin Verlander and catcher Alex Avila. Morosi also noted that the Los Angeles Dodgers have shown interest in Verlander as well. Whether this is idyl chitchatting of serious dispute is unclear, of course. Everything is unclear in the leadup to the deadline.

#Dodgers would pay a tax of 72.5% in 2017, and up to 95% in 2018 on any additions to their payroll. Verlander would cost $48.3 to 54.6M/ yr

Well they can get the Tigers to take on BMac and Puig to offset

the Royals are continuing to eye the market for rotation upgrades, according to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag (via Twitter). Kansas City could even bump Cahill into the bullpen if a significant enough piece were to be found, Heyman notes. It’s worth noting that K.C. was able to add three arms to its current roster without taking on significant salary obligations;

The Nationals and Athletics are still engaged after completing one significant trade, per MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. Whether A’s righty Sonny Gray could come up between the organizations isn’t yet clear, but there are now indications that the Nats are at least beginning to think about the possibility of pursuing a starter

I'm happy that KC is going for one more run but man, they are staring at another 15 year drought

They keep at least Hosmer and Cain imo, Moose is gone but they they become the Phillies. Not good enough to win it all but good enough to stay around .500. Then they fall off the cliff, their farm system is terrible.
