Matz is back. I just have zero confidence he will ever stay healthy for a full year.

I wouldn't trust any of them to stay healthy right now

2016 they had an actual good offense
quote:fangraphs is down right now and i dont know how to manipulate baseball reference but i wouldnt be surprised if they were league average or slightly below league average in offense after they acquired cespedes in 2015
2015 their offense transformed once they obtained Cespedes.

Plus health has been key

They are considerably more dependent on theirs than a normal team. That's the problem with building around a young rotation like they did.

First half .233/.298/.363 .660 OPS
Second half .257/.319/.411 .770 OPS
Now Cespedes was acquired on July 31
August: .269/.337/.479
Sept/Oct: .253/.329/.445

One main problem with the Mets, is they are too dependent on the HR. No gap/line drive hitters. A bunch of "swing for the fences" guys in the lineup. David Write's continuing health issues are a factor as well and the ownership is cheap.
The team needs some young hitters. NY fans are flocking back to the Bronx thanks to that Judge kid.

Grabbing a young pitcher (Martes) an OF (Tucker) a C (Davis) and a corner IF (Moran) would be key for their rebuilding. Of course they could get more than just those names I threw out there but it would help moving forward with Confornto, Robales, and Nimmo.

Trading degrom may require some major league talent

We've seen that countless times during the WC era, teams are middle of the road then they hit a hot streak and make noise in the playoffs.

C (Davis)
I assume you're referring to the Astro's JD Davis. He's actually a 3B/1B/DH type. Although he's played a smattering of the corner outfield this year.

And their rotation is why they were even in that situation to begin with
It is what it is. If I were the Mets, im not considering anything in my rotation unless I'm blown away by someone trying to get Harvey. Im giving it at least one more year

In a vacuum, I'd love to have DeGrom. But when I consider the team in its current state and weigh the costs of acquiring DeGrom vs someone like Sonny Gray, I think I lean towards Gray.
This is already a very good team without an upgrade. DeGrom certainly might put us over the top as a favorite. But are we also made better by what would be a very solid #3 and rotation stabilizer in Gray? He'd be pricey in his own right but maybe not on the same level as DeGrom.
