They’ve been harping on when and where. Owners wanted a 50 game season. Manfred got them to agree to 60 and the players pushed for more.

Now the league is giving them a “when and where” and they’re taking steps backwards. I’ve been behind the players this whole time but it seems like they’ve been all talk.

I get what Bauer is saying, I agree with him. The owners wanted to push this to save money, and they got what they wanted. So now the players have a date and time. It’s time to play ball.

They won the battle of PR and they will win the next CBA as they successfully divided some of the players.

You say this as fact. So watch what happens when players sit out. The owners will bring in scabs and the union will go haywire. That is the one thing they never faced before, and now they will

The players botched it this time and Tony Clark botched it by not getting competent legal representation

Pandemic gives both sides plenty of PR cover for their positions in this dispute.

Only way either side is going to lose a PR battle is if basketball & football figure things out but baseball doesn’t.

the players absolutely made a legitimate move for a compromise with their 2nd proposal

Why are so up the players asses? It was just as much as their fault as it was the owners. It was an early pissing match over the next CBA.

if by just as much as their fault you mean they didn't simply just bend over and accept every single awful proposal made to them then sure

Congrats Players and Owners on torpedoing your sport... the players slightly more than the owners, but who really cares .

Surely you don’t ACTUALLY believe Manfred has done anything to benefit the game of baseball in his life. He hasn’t. And he sure isn’t starting now.

The players basically did business with mob and tried to get out of it

They took the money upfront then realized they screwed up. So yes the players needed to accept a deal. But you keep acting like no money has been exchanged at any point. MLB then allowed MiLB to fire players. Have you figured out why yet? I’m sure you think it’s cost cutting solely.

Absolutely not. Manfred is a complete waste of space. He comes out of this with so much egg on his face.

What a shitshow. And after all this back and forth finger pointing, there was essentially still no agreement. So in 2 years from now when the CBA is up we'll probably go through the same bullshite all over again. It really makes me excited about the future of the game. I know it isn't possible to get rid of most of the dirtbag owners who don't care about the game, but it's time to clean house with the rest of the hierarchy at the negotiating table starting with Manfred and Clark. If there's that much distrust between both sides then it's unlikely either side will trust the other as before.

None of us knew at the time how much we'd regret to see Selig step down. In the end, it just goes to show you how much you don't miss something or someone until it's gone. No one is ever better than creating more negative PR than MLB. Congrats you fricking imbeciles. At some point you'd think someone within the hierarchy would realize that, and do something about it.

I’m not gonna lie, all of this has confused the frick out of me, can someone give me the dumbed down cliffs of this back and forth between the players and owners and why the Owners spent so long trying to negotiate with the players if the entire time they could just throw down the gauntlet and do this?

So we gave up shares of playoff money, eliminating the qualifying offer for 2021, paycheck advance forgiveness, Covid 19 protections, and protection for non guaranteed arb contracts for next year in order to hold on to our right to file a grievance...????

And someone needs to teach him what it means to give up short term gains for long term, larger, goals
