Wade Boggs played in 662 minor league games before getting his 1st MLB at bat. He turned 25 a couple months later.

Another interesting anecdote about Sosa is he is now a white cowboy

Think of the hate he gets now that he is white. He may even find a noose hangin around his garage ??????

Albert Pujols was a mid-30's round draft pick with only one year of ball in community college (and not a powerhouse CC program either). Then shot through the Cardinals' minor league system in one year and was on the big league roster the next.

Dude was almost MVP as a rookie, he doesn't count I don't care if his real age was 26

Jeff Kent became the MVP after being traded to San Francisco and placed behind Bonds in the lineup.

Gonzalez before that 51 home run campaign was a borderline All-Star, the previous two season he had hit 57 home runs. While his spike from 31 to 57 is a joke he didn't really come "out of nowhere" as he had established himself as a legitimate hitter

Mark Fidrych. Went from a 10th round draft choice to national mania in less than 2 years.

Albert Pujols was starting the in majors on opening day the year after getting drafted from a Mid level JUCO in the 13th round.

Pedro was good, but became a god once he joined the Red Sox. His brother, Ramon, at one point, was more popular if my memory serves correctly.

That's because Ramon was the better pitcher until 1997 . Ramon also came up in 88 vs 92 for Pedro and had established himself having won 20 games with a sub-3 ERA and maintaining under a 3.75 era for most of his career

I thought Ramon was a beast. I remember watching him throw a no-no with the Dodgers in 94, maybe 95. But when he fell off, he fell off a cliff.

Albert Pujols going from a 13th round pick in 1999 to the best non-Barry Bonds hitter in baseball from the minute he was in the league in 2001 was pretty damn abrupt and surprising.

I went and looked up his stats after you mentioned him from 88-99 he only had 1 season of a 4 ERA. Then at 32 he fell off with 5+ ERA's and he was retired at 34.

Mike Piazza rookie year .318/.370/.518 35 home runs, 112 RBI..... Dude was a 62nd round draft pick... But like Pujols he was a rookie so not out of no where because he produced enough in the minors to earn his spot

Jacob DeGrom- wasn’t a top 30 prospect in the Mets organization. No one had ever heard of him when he was Brought up to make an emergency spot start and the rest is history.

How much of that was because he was a 3B with little power?

Some thought he had a slow bat with below average defense, thought he needed to work on the mechanics of hitting
