One baseball player cannot single-handedly will his team that far like a superstar NBA player or superstar QB. It just doesn’t work that way in baseball.
The current GOAT, Ohtani, was in the same boat when on the Angels.

No in my opinion

Apples and oranges.
Baseball is dependent on 8 other guys. In basketball one guy can take over.

Cause he’s too worried about them fancy saber rattling stats and not enough about winnin
This thread is replete with low IQ cross sport comparisons and “he doesn’t win” type arguments that we often see on a PTI or parroted by a Stephen A Smith or Kendrick Perkins. Weird for a board that claims to hate all of the above

We are shooting the tone deaf messenger. And now we are being berated by an even more tone deaf messenger. The board is fine, it's the bad apples we could do without.

Worst contract in baseball history

He's very obviously going to be first ballot. 3x MVP for Christ sakes, with an entire decade of stats backing him up.
He was on GOAT trajectory but fell off, shite happens, but some of you are absolutely insane if you truly think he's fringe Hall.

.280 is a stud in today's game.

He doesn't have that much power the ISO stat is just trash (and impacted by his love of walks)
He's never hit 50 HRs and his double tally is worse then noted hall of famer Lyle Overbay. Dude is the most overrated player in sports and got lucky that he came around during the time that the MLB decided to ruin itself with garbage tier advanced stats
You think that someone with a career .580 slugging percentage "doesn't have that much power"?
Mike Trout is 1 BA point from being 1 of 27 players in history to slash .300/.400/.500 for their career. The only ones in that club that aren't in the hall of fame are Shoeless Joe Jackson, Manny Ramirez, and Lefty O'Doul.
Helton was the latest in that group to get inducted.

Such as winning multiple MVPs?

Voted for by the nerd sports writers.
Trout was awesome for a 5-8 year stretch, but baseball sucks about only caring about stats. Winning and availability should still mean something. Trout is in the Hall of Elite Talent, but there’s also nothing wrong with criticizing his lack of winning AT ALL and his injury history

Over 98% is a very high number. Baseball voters are notoriously picky - less so today but still picky. See past vote totals. These are some of the percentages from all time greats who had a stronger resume than current Trout who got less than 98%:
Hank Aaron (97.8%), Tony Gwynn (97.6%), Randy Johnson (97.3%), Greg Maddux (97.2%), Chipper Jones (97.2%), Mike Schmidt (96.5%), Johnny Bench (96.4%), Steve Carlton (95.6%), Babe Ruth (95.1%), Honus Wagner (95.1%), Rickey Henderson (94.8%), Willie Mays (94.7%), Carl Yastrzemski (94.6%), Bob Feller (93.8%), Ted Williams (93.4%), Stan Musial (93.2%), Roberto Clemente (92.7%), Pedro Martínez (91.1%), Christy Mathewson (90.7%).
I know Trout is all the rage with advanced stat geeks and kids who collect baseball cards but a lot of these voters are still old school and even though they broke the seal with Mariano, they aren't going to extend that courtesy to an oft-injured guy who has 1700 career hits, 950 RBI and only one hit in the postseason. Results matter and no amount of WAR white-washing can change that.
He's a HOF lock and I think he slides in on first ballot with some obvious notations but he ain't getting over 98% unless recent trends change dramatically.

If he plays 100 games hes a guaranteed 6 WAR guy

It still boggles my mind that people who watch baseball can’t understand the difference between basketball or even football. You can’t take over a game, dictate an opponent’s entire approach, or elevate your teammates in anywhere close to the same fashion as other sports.
It’s a team sport boiled down to individual interactions

You can go to another team when you know yours is an unserious franchise who doesn’t and has never really cared about winning.
Again, his injury history, lack of ever winning, and seemingly acceptance of playing in obscurity should matter. You’re absolutely right, and there are tons of players that never won the whole thing that don’t get much, if any criticism.
None of that means he not a Hall of Famer, and an excellent player, he’s both of those things. But when you’re stratifying the games greats, you should take that stuff into account.
