If that's really Tomlin's stance and there's no media spin on this, he's a total dickbag and deserves zero respect.
His stance was that nobody would be visibly participating in the charade.

Or if it was even a total team thing or just a few captains who decided to stay in

I was rather OK with the kneeling and sitting in the locker room, as long as they did not bash those that choose to stand and salute. But since it appears that line has been crossed... frick them.

I love how I am getting down votes because people aren't willing to understand Tomlin's or Villanueva's side. It is got to be one or the other, cant be both, which is what I addressed.

Typical left bs group philosophy. They don't care what you believe. The group decided this is what we are doing, and you are expected to shut up and fall in line. I have much respect for him, and his service for our country.

No. He put his love for his country ahead of his team.

Tomlin is lucky Rooney is no longer there, because he would have fired his arse with a quickness and replaced him with Omar Epps.

This situation clearly shows that it works both ways. Nobody cares what someone else thinks, if they don't agree with it.

For Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, being “respectful of our football team” trumped the right of Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to show respect for the national anthem.

Villanueva went to West Point and served three terms throughout Afghanistan while receiving numerous condemnations and honors. I'm sure he had numerous friends and heroes not make it back from that sandbox/hellhole during their tour of duty.

In short, frick you and frick your stupid football team and their need to be respected. I don't give a rat's arse about certain Steeler "role models" like Roethlisberger or the swell, chip of the block Joey Porter's respect.

This media is filling in the gaps as they see fit.

Press Conference Transcript

Tomlin says he wanted it to be an all or nothing team decision. That's it. He doesn't criticize Villanueva.

Here's why... Tomlin is airing out his displeasure to the media like a terrible manager would over a veteran standing for the allegiance while he's let players kneel for two years.

If he has such a problem with all this bullshite, on both sides, he should've bitched out the others who would kneel before this. Not a ranger veteran.

I don't have a problem with what Villanueva did. But didn't that photo go viral? But people avoided pointing out that his teammates were behind him in the tunnel doing the pledge ?

I agree with keeping your team out of sight, thats actually probably smart. But to call him out for doing that was likely a bad mistake

Tomlin is going to be issuing a statement backtracking or clarifying his comment, guaranteed.

This is a horrible look for him.

I can not believe I am going to play this card but here goes...

quote:

In short, frick you and frick your stupid football team and their need to be respected.

So why is Villanueva's rights to expression more important than say Ryan Shazier?

Exactly. If you have a problem with him standing, why not have a problem with a few kneeling???

I think it's because he's been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. I don't necessarily agree with that argument, but it's used all the time (i.e. this coach never played football, how can he tell me what to do).

When in the Blue Hell did it become controversial for anyone..not just a player get criticized for honoring the US by standing for the National Anthem? Do you not see how fricked up your POV is?

This soldier gets it..Duty to Country..

I am going to take a wild guess and say you have never served. If you did, you would not be looking like a SMU Horses arse
