If you were defrauded you'd say "Oh well I guess I should learn a lesson from this" instead of suing to get the money you were owed? Really? What's the lesson he should learn? Don't trust people who made you think they were adopting you into their family when you were just 17 years old b/c they might be using you for your athletic prowess? The frick kind of lesson is that supposed to be?
You sound like you're just jealous that he's had success in his life.

Sad to hear about this. They obviously played a big role in his life so you would think there's a point where they can make peace and avoid this public drama.

It took him this long to realize he wasn’t receiving money from the film. He’s had millions of dollars and access to the best legal representation that any of us could hope for.
And in 20 years he didn’t stop and think “hey im not getting any money from this film” clearly these evil people were trying to screw me out of some of the same money they helped me get

They might have did him shitty, but I’m not crying for a dude who had a nice long NFL career… would it have happened without the Tuohys?

The US needs its homegrown Agnellis, too

You aren’t hearing even hearing his side, the audacity you have to tell other people to do so
In this thread you’ve pivoted from “so what? You should be able to financially groom your children” to “this is a lie” to “even if it was a lie, it happened too long ago how could I believe it!” To “even if it was a lie lessons learned!” To “wait maybe this isn’t a lie and actually HES lying” and have thrown insults and accusations at him.
Eventually you’ll land on something you actually believe

He conveniently has a book out right now. Anyone who believes he just "found out" the difference this year is being obtuse. He knew, he's just trying to sell a book
Oh it all makes sense now.

Isn’t it also possible this was explained to him at 18 and he’s now saying “They tricked me” in order to get more money from a family who’s already given him an entirely different life
Yeah sure. They said hey, we're NOT adopting you even though we tell EVERYONE that's what we did. Instead we are your conservators and that means we get to control your finances, we get to sell a story based on your life, we get to profit off that for decades, and you get zero control over the money.
I mean god damn the story they spun made it out that Touhy knew more about football than Hugh Freeze.

Screw your white adoptive family that got you to where you are 101
Kaep's family told him they didn't approve of his hairstyle/presentation. Something kids from all races and creeds deal with to some degree from their parents. To still be complaining about that in your 30s is childish
Oher's family apparently used him to get a lot of royalties from a movie/book that they didn't include him in. Anyone would be pissed if they found that out
This is nothing like Kaep's comments about his family. I'll wait for more info to come out because we don't know how much of this is true or embellished but Oher has legit grievances if this is true, and he shouldn't be expected to just be ok with that. Brees cut of contact with his mom for similar reasons.

Didn’t Oher need like all the tutoring he could get just to play in college? I can believe they had doubt about his ability to function in the world

Seems odd this is coming out 15-20 years later.. Gonna hold judgement til more comes out
But wasn't Oher talking up and out promoting the movie at its time of release? If you screwed me and I ain't getting paid, I sure as shite am not going to promote your movie and rather do the opposite.
But also, re: adoption vs having him sign the conversatorship paperwork, again, should be very easy to prove I'd imagine.

If it's true that he received zero money from the movie, and he had zero input, why in the world is he just now saying something.
This seems like something he would have been shouting from the mountaintops when the movie first came out in 2008.
so I don't now how any of this works, but:
apparently, even though he is the subject, he is not entitled to any money from it.
unless he actively participates in it in some form (had he wrote the book, gave input, worked with filming, casting, etc.)
I'm wondering if maybe he just recently found out how much the Tuhoys got for it. And it rubbed him the wrong way that not only did they screw him out of the money, but then kept it hush for all these years that they were still making bank on the movie.

Well that's a wet blanket on what was a feel-good story.
Unfortunately, quite a few people are into adoption/fostering for the wrong reasons, and the Tuohy's are one of those families. It also sheds a bad light on those adoptive families like mine that are in it for the right reasons.
Sad all the way around.

Go ahead. Just say the n word and get it over with. We know you really want to and it'll make you feel better about your wife having a boyfriend.

He was a bit behind in his classes (like a shitload of football players unfortunately) but he isn't the childlike Hodor the movie/story makes him out to be either.
Regardless, their story has always been they adopted him into their family. If he really isn't legally part of their family I don't see how anyone can take anything else they push about Oher at face value b/c that would mean the entire story is based on a massive lie.
