He’s trying to get his fair share. He isn’t screwing them over. They screwed him over and he’s seeking remedy.
Quite a conclusion to draw from one side of the story. If the conservatorship stuff is true, I doubt it was done out of malice. More likely they didn’t want him to get a little money and blow it all and be back out on the street. Now all of this will be exposed because he wants to sell more books and possibly get a couple hundred thousand extra dollars on top of his NFL career earnings.
I give it to SJ for standing by him even when he’s suing the family.

Could Oher have legally made a profit off the book that was written & published about him while still in college or the movie that was produced while still in college, even though the movie didn't complete and release until after he graduated??? NIL was not a thing back then. If not then I would hope the Tuohys would have set something up to where he could get royalties from it at a certain point. Unless that has anything to do with my next point...
back before NIL, his family couldn't make money off of it either.
but I'd guess it would likely be argued they made money off their own stories.

The conservatorship is just plain weird. I’ll be following the story to hear the logic there.

Well, that story was heart-warming while it lasted. Sad to see it turn out this way.
Wealthy Ole Miss fans take in poor boy who happens to be a great OL prospect.
Key people involved include Hugh Freeze and Ed O.
No one with any sense thought this wasn't shady 20 years ago.

I don't think Hugh Freeze was known nationally yet.
But Eddie has always had a reputation of being one of the slimiest people in college football.

That's pretty malicious. "I'll steal your money so you don't waste it". Also, he was in the NFL when the movie money was coming in so that would be an even stupider thought.

I knew Michael was lying.

It's hard to trust someone that marries a stripper.

Or, here’s a crazier thought, don’t go parading him around as your “son” if all you did is sign a conservatorship

Wouldn't the NCAA have made sure he was adopted as part of that investigation? I would think that would have been a baseline to the investigation in the first place.
We talking about the NCAA here… lolz

You think the Beatles aren't earning money for rights to their music anymore?
The Beatles didn't have full control of their catalog since the 1960s, and in 1985 Michael Jackson bought most of their catalog.
Paul McCartney regained partial ownership in 2017.
So, that's not the best example.

Apparently Oher moved in with the Touhy's in 2004. In 2006, a book was released. I've never written a book, but I assume it takes multiple months from when it's technically written, to the process of revision, and eventually publishing.
At the least, less than 2 years after allowing Oher to move in, a book is already published about the story.
That just sounds very opportunistic to me.
The book isn't just about Oher. Most of it could've been researched and written before the author heard from his friend about taking Oher into his home.

quote:Oher was 18 when he moved in with these folks & was already First team All State in Basketball, All American (5* recruit ) in Football. He barely lived with this family a year. Didn't need them & Oher got himself to where he is.
Screw your white adoptive family that got you to where you are 101

quote:It took me 30 seconds to learn that his " Queen" Tiffany Roy has been dating Oher since college at Ole Miss & have lived with their 4 kids for nearly 15 years.
I think I see the problem here. The queen has probably been chirping in his ear since the day they got married about how he needs to get his respek(and her money).
Your bigotry aside you may have come close to something. She may have learned that Spouses don't get automatic Power of Attorney/ Conservatorship? If something happened to Michael then it appears his wife Tiffany may have to defer decisions to this family. Insane. Hopefully he gets that Conservatorship removed asap.

He wasn't.
However, it was always interesting to me that within two years of Oher graduating from Briarcrest High School, Freeze was on staff at Ole Miss.

Why do people act like this is the first time a school has hired a high school coach to get to a blue-chip recruit...

Because this was the first time they made a movie about it.

are you that naive to where you need movies to be made aware of the sliminess of college football?
