And I want to check if the girl was even really his girlfriend or if that was just a manufactured part of the hype. This is the school that asked Joe Theismann (was pronounced Theesman) to change his last name to sound like Heisman after all.

Because of Te'o's hype, Jones is, in fact, being extremely overrated on this site, to try to put him above Te'o. He is a great pass rusher. I would take Te'o in every other aspect of the game, including coverage, block shedding, tackling, play recognition, and leadership. Regardless, as has been mentioned about 1,000 times, the two play different positions. Very hard to compare.

1) The fact that you seriously think ND would do something like lie about a girl who died for some hype for one of their players (and that it wouldn't come out, Te'o would agree to it, and the girl's family wouldn't have a problem with it) is pretty disturbing.

2) Theismann thing was not a ND effort, it was his dorm, and he loved it and chose to stick with it, so don't really understand the problem.

You are truly pathetic. What if instead of making yourself look like an a-hole, you did a little research yourself?

Exactly. I have reasonable friends who say that Te'o is definitely the best linebacker, but that it would be ridiculous for him to win the Heisman. I think he should win it but it wouldn't be some travesty if he didn't. Both are valid opinions that don't take any dishonesty or bias.

This board is just absurd. I'm not sure its ever seen such dishonest and ill-informed analysis of player's abilities than this topic.

Didnt even suit up for two games

Should also be noted that he suited up for the SEC title game, but was manhandled.

and there are other reasonable people that don't think te'o is the best LB in football, much less most outstanding player in CFB

Certainly, but they are probably biased and/or ill-informed.

If Derrick Thomas's 1988 season was only good enough for 10th place in the Heisman voting then Manti Teo shouldn't even be invited to New York. I agree with him winning the Lombardi but it's clear the Notre Dame heisman hype machine is in full gear and working its magic this year. Apparently Manti's 7 INTs trumps DT's 27 sacks, 39 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 blocked punts as long as you play for Notre Dame.

Te'o would be just another player if he played in the sec. The fact that he is going to be in new york and has a chance to win the heisman is a JOKE!

True. Think of the absolute studs that played in the SEC alone that had amazing years where they didn't win the Heisman. Hershel's freshmen year, Peyton Manning's senior year, Derrick Thomas 1988, Emmitt Smith at Florida 1988. Darren McFadden at Arkansas, and on and on.

I never said Derrick Thomas getting 10th place was right. Those stats are absolutely absurd. I can't even imagine how they justified voting him that low. But yeh, the hype machine that had Notre Dame unranked to start the season must really be working. I guess it shut down this past offseason off for maintenance.

Yep, Emmitt Smith was definitely better than Barrey Sanders that year There are plenty of other examples outside of the SEC.

There are trophy makers looking for sponsors just looking to find a way to give Te'o a trophy.

And Tim Brown was an awful Heisman winner - and I met him and worshipped him that year. He had 3 TDs and played for a QB that did not throw.

That year - they invented the specialist position for him because the Heisman winner had to be a first team AA (since changed b/c QBs were 2nd team AAs and won Heisman)
