Hmm.... $300 million guaranteed or maybe winning a few more games on a team that might not even make the playoffs.... yeah.... tough choice.

Well there was a report from Rosenthal this weekend after that 8/250 offer from SD came out that the White Sox were “major players still for Machado”. Maybe they topped that offer and SD came back with this. It sucks for White Sox fans I guess but you have to have a line and it sounds like this last SD offer went over it for them.

so it definitely makes sense
Sure but it's not like you get 50% Cali Tax on all the money
If they play in Texas/Florida no state Tax

But do they really only get paid during the season? No pay at all during spring training? Do they really go 6 months of the year with no paycheck? I honestly don't know.
Adrian and Edgar Gonzalez are really good friends with my business partners from way back. He says they get it all in 6mnths and yes the other months its endorsement money but he claimed Residency in Florida from when he played on the Marlins so no state tax on any of that money. Meanwhile he bought a 15mil mansion in La Jolla
Just called my bro and its paid every 2 weeks for the 6mnths they play

Source: #WhiteSox offer to Machado was 8/$250M (a higher AAV than he will receive from #Padres. Total value of deal - with incentives and vesting options - could have been “well north” of $300M.

Second source says total value of #WhiteSox offer could have reached $350M if all options were vested and every incentive was reached. But Machado, as believed all along, wanted the $300M guarantee.
Eh, I'm less angry with the Sox now. Evidently Manny was content with the bird in the hand.

damn, I couldn't imagine being a minor league player and trying to budget with that low of a salary and knowing I won't be getting a paycheck of any kind from my ballclub for half the year.

Yeah would suck for a minor league player but he told me Adrian was getting 600k wires every 2 weeks

Great player, clubhouse cancer
People say he doesn’t hustle all the time. I’ve never heard he is a problem in the clubhouse. He seems to be liked by his teammates.

Assuming he would 100% reach all incentives would be a massive gamble. Players miss out on major incentives in their contracts due to injury, declining play, or straight up front office manipulation often enough that I don't begrudge any player who doesn't care to take that risk.

The average player sees about 35-45% of their contract money. He will be on the lower end mainly because he’s playing in California.
The state of California will tax him at approximately 50%, then the “jock tax” (other states he plays games in) will eat up another 5-10%, then his agent will get 10%. He will see 30-35% of that contract.
Some may have a hard time feeling sorry for a guy who will see $90-100 million, but the tax rates are absurd on players who make that kind of money.

Over under on years if he even makes it to year 5 in San Diego. No way he plays all 10 years with the Padres.

With that kind of money he will be able to buy a sweet 2 bed 1 bath in Clairemont

Nope, he lives in/has residency in Florida.

Manny Machado will pay “Jock Taxes” in states he travels and plays in, but he’ll save money by being a Florida resident on salary and signing bonus. Will continue to claim Florida residency

nice irrelevant spot for him to park the rest of his career.
Worse places to live for the next 10 years with $300 million than San Diego.

A huge portion of this is not correct.

It's been a while since I've seen a player piss off an entire organization like Machado did with the Sox and others due to his dirty play.
