I broke down each players team based on scoring defense. I then calulated the mean and median, as well as Super Bowl victories based on where the defense fell in the rankings

Some interesting take aways

Brady has had a top 10 scoring defense 12 times

Brees and Rodgers only 3 and 2 respectfully

Manning has had a defense ranked 21st or worse 6 times, Brees 9 times, and Brady never

Brees and Manning have both won a title with a defense raked 16th or worst, but Manning is the only one with a title with a defense ranked worse than 21st

Brady's average defense is 7 spots better than Rodgers, 8 spots better than Manning, and 13 spots better than Brees

ETA: Added scoring offense. As you suspect, the part of the game these guys actually control is neck and neck

ETA 2: Time of possession

ETA 3: Passer rating

I'd be interested in seeing Bradshaw, Montana, Starr, and Griese.

Fair enough. But I think it gives you a good look on how going on wins and losses isnt exactly the best way to look at things

Bradshaw HOF steel curtain. was top tier each of his 4 wins

Montana had a couple of great defenses.

Starr's defense was all time great.

do not remember Griese's defense. His backfield duo and WR, Warfield, were terrific.

It's easy to win when you're riding on an elite defense. Or when opponent's offense make the worst play calls in NFL history.

So Brees has averaged the 22nd best scoring defense with the saints. Median is 25

Wow

Saints D also gave up the most yards and points per drive this season

I'd love to see a breakdown of turnovers forced too

Do you know why that is? Because each of those teams invested way more in offense. Belichick knew he could win with scrubs out there on offense and invest in defense because Brady is gonna get his because he is the fricking GOAT

Defense wins championships...but it helps to have a better QB than the other team

Brees has never played with a Pro Bowl WR, so who they hell are the Saints paying?

Thank you. After looking at the chart, I would like a "rings guy" to explain how it makes sense to count the rings when there is this much of a discrepancy in defense, which is a unit that is on the field 50% of the time without the QB
