re: Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rodgers: A chart based on scoring defense

Do you know why that is? Because each of those teams invested way more in offense. Belichick knew he could win with scrubs out there on offense and invest in defense because Brady is gonna get his because he is the fricking GOAT
Scrubs? Come on
And the reason why this is, is because the Pats will trade talent and let them wall rather than overpaying. They'll rely on the draft and FA signings.
Whereas the Saints go out and sign guys like Byrd, Junior, etc.
The problem has not been a lack of investment by the Saints. It has been a lack of defensive talent/character evaluation.
Byrd
Browner
Junior
Hawthorne
Bunkely
Laurinitis
Not to mention the awful drafting

Thank you. After looking at the chart, I would like a "rings guy" to explain how it makes sense to count the rings when there is this much of a discrepancy in defense, which is a unit that is on the field 50% of the time without the QB

Manning only has 2 Super Bowls, but you have 3 marked down for him. I think 1-5 should be marked 1/4 for Manning, unless I'm reading your info incorrectly.

So the Saints under Brees have beat their median of 25 5x:
2006 - NFCCG
2009 - Super Bowl
2010 - Wild Card
2011 - Divisional Round
2013 - Divisional Round
2006 - NFCCG
2009 - Super Bowl
2010 - Wild Card
2011 - Divisional Round
2013 - Divisional Round

What is even more shocking is how Tom Brady's worst defense is still much better than the Saints average
I just want to consistently have Brady's worst defense. Is that too much to ask for?

Brady has never had a defense ranked below league average
Brees has had 9

Highest Saints cap hits this year:
Drew Brees 17.2M
Junior Galette 12.1M (DEAD)
Jairus Byrd 10.9M
Jahri Evans 6.1M (5.1M DEAD)
Marques Colston 5.9M (DEAD)
Cam Jordan 5.8M
CJ Spiller 4.5M (DEAD)
Max Unger 4.3M
Brandon Browner 4.1M (DEAD)
Zach Strief 3.7M
Keenan Lewis 3.6M (DEAD)
Dannell Ellerbee 3.2M
Terron Armstead 3.1M
Thomas Morstead 3M
David Hawthorne 2.3M (DEAD)
That is our top-15 cap hits totalling $90.2 M or 58% of our cap.
Of which:
$29.3 M is spent on offense 32.4% of top 15
$19.9 M is spent on defense 22.1% of top 15
$3 M is spent on special teams 3.3% of top 15
$38 M is wasted on DEAD MONEY 42.2% of top 15

What also sucks for Brees is that in the 2010 game against Tampa in week 17, we lost 3 defensive starters for the Seattle game.
That offense was clicking and could have made a run. Gave up 41 points to a bad Seattle team.
In our 4 playoff losses with Brees, we've given up an 35 ppg:
39 - Bears
41 - Seahawks
36 - 49ers
23 - Seattle

nothing is worse than that 2011 game. You have Alex Smith pinned back inside his own 20 with about 90 seconds left.

You should put this on Saints talk

All we had to do was not blitz, and the worst thing that could have happened was a long FG to force OT. 40 seconds left, no timeouts, ball at the SF 33 and we send the house and leave Jenkins in 1-1 coverage with Davis
I had forgotten their TD came on 3rd down with 9 seconds left. Ouch

So out of the 4, Brady has had significantly better defenses than the others while also having worse statistical performance than all other than Brees (and that's very close)? Things that make you go hmmmmmm

I already got raped on saints talk once for saying we wasted drew

Yep. He's 4th all-time in career passer rating in the playoffs at 100.7.
His passer rating in losses would be 12th.

I mean we got a Super Bowl, so not a complete waste.
But we had a chance at a dynasty from 2009 until now and have completely blown it with some of the worst defenses in NFL history.

Anyone who says Brees isn't on Brady's level is retarded. It's so much easier to just say rings mean everything.
Posted on 2/8/17 at 12:28 pm to TigerBait1127
It's a waste when you haven't been close to another one.
