Yeah SLC is just barely above Birmingham on the metro list. But I really think MLB wants another team in the West, badly. Portland would be a better option.

Maybe they can follow college football’s model of expansion- place west coast teams in an Atlantic Division.
All for that big tv money of course.

How about they just fire Rob Manfred and install Goose Gossage as Commissioner?
I'll say this loud. frick.....ROB.....MANFRED.

I actually hate the model where teams are moving Triple A closer to the MLB team. It further reduces the reach of the game. Why should one market get the joy of seeing both squads? I understand it’s easier to shuttle players up and down, but it sucks for fans.
The realignment idea, outside of accommodating expansion teams, is dumb. Manfred wakes up and seems to think of shite that literally nobody is clamoring for, and rolls with it.

Look how terrible the uniforms are. And most parks now have a whole wall of ads behind home plate. He's already turned the league into Nascar.

And then this one, LOLOLOLOL and you said they went with geography for their new groups, want to rephrase that???

Do you think any of the decisions being made by any of the professional sports leagues or the NCAA are actually being done with the fans in mind for even one millisecond?

Because that’s the market that cares about them… after the Astros nobody gave a shite about the Nationals, Mets, and Marlins in New Orleans

You are right. That said, I don’t see how this stuff is a huge money maker either.

This is the reason why. You can have tons of success in the right market (I.e. good stadium, solid economical base) even if it’s away from the MLB market.
SLC, Round Rock, Buffalo, Toledo, Memphis, Nashville, Iowa, Louisville, Vegas, etc…all have done well.

I'm mixed on this. I think MLB needs to be very careful to protect historical rivalries, but getting things more geographically focused makes a lot of sense.
Adding teams means it is tougher to win a championship, but population has grown a ton since the last expansion.
It is kind of crazy that North Carolina doesn't have a team. I think Charlotte or Raleigh/the Triangle could support one.
Charlotte is slightly larger but already has NFL, NBA, and MLS. The Triangle only has NHL (plus three major universities).

Memphis' stadium is a dump. And one of the Cardinals players talked about how he went on a road trip and when they got back to Memphis his car was stolen from the players lot.
I mentioned Memphis as being knocked down to AA and the Cardinals replacing them with a AAA closer to the major league team because they facilities are so poor. But they could just as easily expand MLB in Nashville and give Memphis to them for AAA.
That doesn't solve for needing more AA teams. But the expansion by 8 minor league teams would offset some of what you're saying about communities losing pro baseball. It's valid, and it's a big problem I had with the overall reduction of the minor leagues. The only way it will come back is through expansion at every level though. They aren't going to add back a short season league (though I think they should).

Of course cubs fans would be behind the division that mandummy has proposed. They would actually have a chance to win a division title more than 1 time every 5 years.

Aside from the rivalries they’ve fostered over the years, divisions have never made less sense than they do today. 4 team divisions like the NFL makes absolutely no sense given the season is spread across 162 games and not 17. You don’t need to force schedule balancing
They want to reduce travel costs while still having everyone play each other. Those seem to be competing principles. Not surprising because MLB has been led by two dumbfricks since 1993.
The schedule used to have a reason and a flow to it before the 3-division setup in each league. Now it’s just a bunch of random matchups throughout the year. You end up with road trips like Boston-Miami-New York (in that order) because of this idiotic notion that every team needs to play every team in the other league.
“But, hey, fan, we’ll sell you the MLB.TV package where you can watch the 20-29 teams not in your area. What, you want to watch your local team? Tell your content provider to pick up your team’s RSN and watch it there or frick you.”
Baseball is still a great game, never mind that the people running it have no idea how to run it.

Sounds like MLB is going to sell MLB.tv to ESPN. Oh boy, what could go wrong there? I feel like it's about to get even more expensive to watch baseball.

Baseball needs a relegation zone.

Baseball is huge here in NC as well. Since I live in the Raleigh area, I'd love for them to put a team here. The owner of the Hurricanes, just bought the Trailblazers and is pushing hard for an MLB team to land here. They are also breaking ground on a multi-billion dollar entertainment district around the arena and Carter-Finley stadium area led by the Hurricanes owner, kind of like what the Braves currently have. They've partitioned part of that development off for a future baseball stadium.
All that said, Charlotte seems to get all of the consideration for teams, so it'll likely land there. Raleigh pushed hard for an MLS team and they gave it to Charlotte even though NCFC has a ton of community support and strong attendance as a minor league club and Raleigh was going to build a downtown stadium. They wanted the type of money that Tepper has, even though he's a shite owner. Tepper is in the ownership group form Charlotte, so if they land there, he can now suck the life out of three professional franchises.

I went to AutoZone Park about 10 years ago and it was awesome. I know MLB made a big push to upgrade player facilities.
As far as a car being stolen…not sure you’d consider moving a team because of that. That can happen anywhere, as I have never seen an MiLB park with fenced in and guarded player parking.
I also don’t see St Louis metro as big enough to support MLB and triple A, at least to where it’s worth the move.
