The Major League Baseball competition committee is set to vote Friday on rule changes that would begin in 2023

quote:

The goal is to increase action on the field, quicken the pace and reduce the amount of time it takes to play a major league game. The rule changes are expected to pass and include the following:

quote:

A 15-second pitch clock with the bases empty and a 20-second clock with runners on

quote:

Two disengagements from the rubber -- including pickoff attempts -- per plate appearance

quote:

requirement by hitters to be in the batter's box and "alert" with eight seconds to go on the clock. Hitters are allowed one timeout per plate appearance

quote:

Only two infielders will be allowed on each side of second base, with all four required to be on the dirt (or inner grass)

quote:

Infielders cannot position themselves on the outfield grass before the pitch is thrown

quote:

Bases will increase in size from 15 inches squared to 18

Thank goodness the shift is finally gone, but the pitch clock takes more time to enforce than just letting the guy throw a second or two late.

Hopefully the have a grace period and they aren’t stopping the game every time a guy goes over 14.9 seconds.

How about lowering prices for this shite product now. Seriously, ghost runner in extra innings. That’s bullshite. Pitch clock. Two disengagements. Bigger bases. If I’m paying a shite ton of money for tickets, parking, concessions, souvenirs and all that shite, I don’t really give a frick if a game is 3.5 hours.

Or...and I know this is a crazy idea, have the batters learn to hit the opposite way...such crap..

I don’t watch a lot of baseball anymore but if I turned it on and had to figure all this shite out I’d just turn it back off

I don’t understand this one.

Also, what are the penalties for each of these rule changes?

See I am sort of with you here. Basically other than the pitcher and catcher I think a team should be able to set up their defense any way they want. If they want 6 outfielders so be it. If they want everyone shifted to left then great.

frick that. Learn to hit against the shift. They're professionals getting paid to do so.

this is the one I have exception to. I think the rest will definitely speed up the game but this one seems very much exploitable and heavily in favor of the offense.

I wonder if there will be a rule where the runner can't take a huge lead after two pickoff attempts or some other stupid arse shite to combat this.

The pitch clocks can’t get here soon enough. Neither can auto balls and strikes. Too bad auto balls and strikes aren’t up for vote.

So what happens on the 3rd disengagement - free base like a balk?
After two disengagements, does the pitcher have to quicken his delivery after engaging to mitigate a gigantic lead by the runner?

Yea all for the pitch clocks and limiting the shift. Like the poster above said, not very thrilled about limiting the pick off moves. Also, I don’t think they should do both two fielders on each side of the bag and all infielders must have their feet on the dirt. I think it should be one or the other, I favored the two fielders on either side of the bag but they can play as deep as they want.

The pitch clock is the only good one. It seems to work in the minors.

Two pitch outs and I’m taking a lead that’s 50%+ the base path

Also, do any of these rules address what is making the games so long? Is it pitch outs, long pitch times, and shifts? Or is it changing pitchers so often?

This is a significant change to the game of baseball and is absolute bullshite. "Bruh he picked off twice let me get a 30 foot lead and a running start".
