Does WGN still exist as a national channel? Feel like I haven’t heard of it in a while. I’m sure it’s still around in Chicago.

I’m surprised that you don’t see more Cardinals fans since KMOX can be picked up clearly pretty much throughout the country.
First I hear this in my 40 years of living in Louisiana
Always been a Braves guy but have enjoyed the Cubs too. Never got on the Astros train (I don’t remember being able to follow the team much in my area).

This is common for Louisiana baseball fans 40 and up who watched those teams on cable when they were growing up. Many others are Astros fans simply because of proximity. Baton Rouge is a little over four hours from Houston. If you live in the Lake Charles Area, you can get to Minute Maid almost as fast as you can Tiger Stadium. In the 80s, a trip to Astroworld and an Astros game was an annual summer occurrence for many Louisiana kids.

No. The WGN national channel was turned into newsnation a few years ago.

Same as you Michael. Grandpas watched Braves, my dad and his friends were all Yankees fans. Followed the Braves due to them always being on TV. But I’m a big Yankees fan.
Will be hitting 3 new stadiums this summer. Cubs, White Sox, and Brewers.

Same here. Of course here in South Carolina the Braves was everyone’s team but nothing beat watching the Cubs mid afternoon on WGN, eating dinner, and then watching the Braves at 7:05

I thought the Yankees had a strong NOLA presence.

I think when cable t.v. came around that kind of surpassed the powerful radio stations for baseball consumption nationally to some extent, the folks who latched on to the Cardinals back in the 50's to the 70's because of KMOX, like my Dad for example, gave way to the next generation that latched on to Cubs/Braves in the 80's and early 90's.

Mets fan since I was 10 (1986). Watched the World Series on TV as my first exposure to MLB. We had a minor league team here but dearly went til I was older. Mets won the WS, kept following them through Middle School and things just stuck. Been suffering ever since. Between them and the Saints it’s been rough through the years.
At least you got to experience the win, the first year i remember following them is 88 when i was 12. Still waiting for the first World Series win of my fandom 37 years later. I used to love when they played the Cubs or Braves cause it meant i got to watch them play on TV.

Louisiana Cardinals fan here. There are some of us sprinkled around.

Weren't the White Sox also on WGN? Plus the Mets on WOR.

I think this is correct. My dad and grandfather were Cardinals fans due to KMOX and I inherited that fandom but the Braves and Cubs were more prevalent in south Louisiana due to WGN and TBS.
Side note, I loved watching baseball on WGN and TBS, the voices became so familiar. It just didn’t affect my allegiance to the Cardinals.
Double side note, WGN was a gift in the 1990s to be able to watch Jordan and the Bulls dynasty on a regular basis.

Growing up in Louisiana I was a Cardinals and Cubs fan. Living in Alabama later in life I became a Braves fan. I even pulled for the Red Sox for a while. Now, I just watch baseball now and then and don’t care who wins.
Now LSU is my only college team to route for!

Was a Braves fan growing up because of TBS, became an Astros fan around 2010

Grew up a Braves fan. All my friends were Astros fans growing up. Very rarely came across Yankees fans.

Cubs got me via WGN as a youngster. Been 95 percent pain and 5 percent bliss since then.

My dad was cardinals because of KMOX, I grew up every day coming home from school and watching the cubs. Hated the braves. Now, I just watch whatever pitching duel or old school rivalry game is on. Not a fan of any team just love good baseball.
