UNO 4 v Northwestern 3 (Demons play Cowboys in an elimination game tomorrow. UNO takes on Nichols for a spot in the SLC championship game)

SWAC Tournament:

Tulane one win away from conference championship game? Could be USF vs. Tulane 7 vs 8

Nicholls and UNO- winner gets to championship game and can still lose one.

ULL needs a win tonight to put themselves in a better spot to make regional.

This season is a case study on why the RPI is trash
UL is 4-0 vs Texas State yet they are 6 spots up in RPI
Kentucky is top 5 yet lost 6/10 conference tournaments
Indiana State is 2-9 vs RPI top 50 yet is top 10 RPI
DBU has 2 quad 1 wins yet they are top 15
I could go on
It’s just a trash system.

ULL lost 6-3.

They will battle against Texas State tomorrow at 6:30PM to try and extend their stay in Montgomery.

Because RPI factors full body of work.

Kentucky played 34 Quad 1 teams and went 16-14 in the SEC, it balances out. The Cajuns shot themselves in the foot all year unfortunately. They have a good team, but you can’t drop midweek games to Southeastern and La Tech regularly when you’re in a weaker conference, you don’t play enough high RPI teams to render midweek losses meaningless.

On a different note, I’m curious if Southland Conference teams are already over McNeese hosting every postseason tournament.

Is it really though?
Who has Northeastern and Xavier beaten? Their entire RPI is bolstered by one tournament
Arizona? RPI 44 because they have teams in their conference who don’t suck- but at 12-18 they do
Indiana State played a lot of people on the road in non conference- lost to nearly all of them- and dominated a crap league- top 10

When it comes to judging teams in the same conference the RPI is irrelevant. There is already a clear standard for judging how they did against their peers. Conference standings. We act like those games never got played and the only ones that matter happened in February and early March. Unless you’re in the big 3 then you take a nap until April and you’re good as long as you get somewhere close to .500.

RPI rewards mediocre teams playing scheduling tricks
Note: this is not strictly a UL point.

I'm paying for staying up that late to watch the game this morning. Tired as hell. They need to move the SBC tournament, there is no energy in Montgomery.

Put it in Biloxi or Pensacola.
