Since we are getting into the old realignment argument again, does the SEC rule of no individual TV contracts extend to schools that come in to the SEC?

Since Texas is locked for 20 years, could the SEC still accept the Horns into their fold? Or are the Horns out for 20 years?

Frankly, there isn't much difference between Bama-OU-A&M fans in terms of ignorance, passion and retardation.

Yes, I realize I just ran down my alma mater, but there's some truth to it.

Horns are locked out. Texas has been setting up their independence since 1998. This is from talking to some Texas and A&M brass that are in the know. They just couldn't do it right away in 1996...

Not for LSU it ain't. If we get OU an aTm over Bama every year then I'm happy.
That's just crazy.

Hopefully this is the repeat of exactly what happened to ND. Their program crashed with the NBC deal, the non-ND fan base was energized out of jealousy and ND has never recovered. :)

Couldn't happen any better to two of the most obnoxious media fan based programs in the NCAA.

Does UT think they can make more money being Independent then staying in the Big 12-2?

It depends on what happens with Big 12 membership and the conference's revenue agreements.

Texas currently gets the lion's share of the money, followed by Oklahoma and A&M. The other 7 schools are left to fight over crumbs.

haha, very true... except you should put "every large state school fanbase"

Frankly, the Baylor, Techs and TCU's of the world have their idiots, but there are a lot less of them because their fanbases aren't that large.

Not true.

Numbers released in June 2010 from 2008-2009 season: LINK
quote:

Big 12 2008-09 Revenue Sharing
1. Oklahoma, $12.2 million
2. Texas, $11.8 million
3. Kansas, $11.5 million
4. Missouri, $10.4 million
5. Texas A&M, $10.2 million
6. Oklahoma State, $10.0 million
7. Colorado, $9.77 million
8. Nebraska, $9.73 million
9. Texas Tech, $9.2 million
10. Baylor, $9.1 million
11. Iowa State, $8.9 million
12. Kansas State, $8.4 million

I still think the Longhorn network is the beginning of the end of the Big 12 (well, after losing Nebraska and Colorado).

As much as I would like to see Texas go independent, it isn't happening.....and the Aggies aren't going to the SEC.

We are all screwed by the politicians who will force Texas & A&M to stay in the same conference with Baylor & Tech.

Google "Tech Problem" and read what the Columbus Dispatch found in their freedom of information request if you are interested......

The problem with your numbers is that they're from the 2008-2009 season, as the agreement was renegotiated after Colorado and Nebraska left in early 2010.

The conference guaranteed large sums to Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M at the expense of the other schools in order to keep A&M from leaving for the SEC and/or Texas et all leaving for the Pac Ten.

The Texas deal was the straw that broke the Big 12-2 back and what will get National Realignment going again. Texas knows this and expects it all to go down again. Big 12-2 will default on their promise to A&M. On top of that, heavy donors of A&M could care less if they play the Texas schools again.
the state legislature wont let this happen

It will the SWC all over again. The "Leg" can be happy and the Texas teams will fall behind everyone else.

Seriously, unless you are a grad of UT I don't see this being very appealing.

Even UT fans won't watch the university orchestra's performance. Most are just football fans.

So we kick the entire state of Alabama to the east, to make room for some OU/aTM fans?

You do realize that would put 8 teams in the SEC East and only 6 in the West. But I'm all for it.

Texas fleeced the rest of the Big 12 when A&M called their bluff - only problem with A&M is they could've owned Texas by going to SEC.

Next round of expansion Texas might secure their SEC future with OU and leave the Aggies out to pasture!

I do not foresee this happening. Texas will never join the SEC.

Found this thread on one of the TAMU sites:

Time to SECede

It's just a matter of time before A&M joins the best Football Conference in College Football.
