McKinley was on the rise before they got sanctioned by the LHSAA. They were a competitive team and made district 5-5A a deep district. Woodlawn was ok before Marcus Randall got there. It’s all about having the right person in charge. It’ll take them a few years but McKinley will be competitive again. They have the right man at the helm.

Texas enrollment snapshot day is Friday. It’s expected that 75-80 schools will turn in a number over 3000.

Allen will be 7000+
All three Plano schools 5000+
Duncanville 4500+

This is likely the last 2 year alignment before they add 7A as a division.

It's a shame that these are pre-Ida enrollment numbers. South Lafourche will be trying to compete as an already small 5A with 3A numbers. Enrollment is still currently around 1,000 from what I've told due to students having the option to work virtually. Some of these kids could be currently displaced a state away and it still counts towards their enrollment. BRUTAL

I wouldn't be opposed to a 6A. Look at those numbers. Dutchtown has nearly 1500 more than the smallest 5a school. How is that right?

In years past I have read many who wrote (here on these forums, and in other locations) that even 5A is a bit much for the schools here in Louisiana, that we could get away with 4 classes. And, now, with the playoff split over the last 7 years, we have 9 championships.

It's all excessive.

Yup. We surely don't need 6A and can probably get away with 5A.

For example right now in 5A, we have 9 districts for football with a total of 64 teams.

In Texas, 6A has 32 districts for football with a total of over 200 teams.

They do break the playoffs into two brackets for football... but still that's still far more schools completing for a championship than LHSAA

Here's the Catholic League's true enrollment numbers (not counting 8th grade):

Chapelle (girls) - 462
Rummel - 531
Shaw - 316
BM - 887
Dominican (girls) - 740
HC - 453
Jesuit - 1004
Curtis (co-ed)- 373
Mt. Carmel (girls) - 987
St. Aug - 454

Before Katrina, Rummel and Chappelle were north of 1200.

Dominican was north of 1,000

Jesuit, BM, and Mt. Carmel were closer to 1,800.

Shaw and St. Aug were closer to 800.

Remember when the westbank had two girls catholic high schools? They meerged after Katrina due to declining enrollment, and Academy of Our Lady, the merged school, is now down to about 400 students.

Just crazy how Catholic HS education has dropped in the last 20 years in the NOLA metro.

Coupled with a 25 year decline in parochial school enrollment nationwide.

Case in point Jesuit reject list used to be 3-4 times more than what it is now.

Hannan is at 598 (co-ed)

St. Paul's is at 722

St. Charles 359 (co-ed)

Hannan and St. Paul are growing... St. Charles pretty steady

Seems like this problem is less about NOLA metro and more about Orleans and Jefferson Parish

Not sure about national numbers.

I would not say that per se... there are smaller Catholic high schools in the area

But both of those -- especially Rummel - are huge campuses. Are they mothballing classrooms? How are they keeping up with the maintenance of those huge campuses?

No... Only thing they did was they took the old Stewart Prep building that housed the 8th grade kids and changed it to a baseball field house.

They just did a multi-million dollar capital improvement on the campus...

and put in a $300k turf field on the band practice field. Rummel isn't hurting for money..
